The Nutanix Certified Expert (NCX) certification tests candidates on their ability to create and deliver Cloud-Smart solutions that leverage the Nutanix stack for Private Cloud and the best offerings from our Public Cloud partners for hybrid services.

Every NCX is an expert in their field and has the proven ability to design enterprise-scale solutions that support business-critical applications with service level agreements specified by business stakeholders.

Recently we caught up with Mohammed Azam to talk about his experience earning this expert-level certification and to get his advice for other professionals looking to earn their NCX.

Can you tell us about your IT background?

I’m an IT professional with 22 years of experience in public and private enterprises across the Middle East. I have worked on many IT technologies covering most of the critical areas like infrastructure, network, security, cloud, etc. I’m always working hard to keep myself updated with the latest technology trends and advances.

I started my career in Saudi Arabia with a multinational company called Sigma Paints, which is part of PPG. I worked there for 12 years and had the opportunity to work with organizations like Riyadh Metro, AEC (CMA), etc. Currently I’m working at Nutanix as a Senior Consultant handling many strategic customers. I’m continuously gaining great knowledge and experience in this role.

How do you see NCX helping your career?

NCX certification is a great engagement and learning tool to help you find out the business challenges, pain points etc. and then design a solution that will address and solve it.

It helped me to design the complete solution end to end covering not only Nutanix products but also integrating with other third-party products and solutions. It helped me to gain more confidence in myself after achieving the NCX.

Why did you decide to get your NCX certification?

As we know, technology is rapidly changing and we must be up to the mark. So I always try to keep myself updated with the latest certifications. Also, one of my important ambitions is to stand out of the competition and hence I decided to get the NCX certification.

Can you walk us through the process of getting your NCX certification?

Ever since I started working on Nutanix, I always wanted to reach the expert level as I find the technology very interesting and valuable. First I started with NCA then followed NCP, NCM and lastly NCX. I attended the ECSD boot camp in October 2021 and worked hard to prepare myself to reach the NCX. It took around 6 months of preparation for passing NCX.

What tools/resources did you use to prepare for the certification, and what is your opinion of the NCX process?

I used Nutanix resources, including Nutanix University, The Nutanix Bible and Nutanix solutions documentation. The ECSD boot camp is also a valuable resource and will help you to get the clear way to reach the NCX certification.

What advice would you give someone who’s pursuing the NCX certification?

Anyone who is trying to pursue the NCX certification must attend the ECSD boot camp training. They should also design a solution which focuses on solving the business challenges and pain points. The solution design must include the recoverability, availability, manageability, performance, and security.
