Assistance installing community edition for testing

Hey Team,

I need a little bit of assistance here. I am new to Nutanix and currently attempting to deploy the community edition for some testing. However, I’ve been following several different guides out there and not having much luck.

Installing on VM using ESXi 7.0 (VM version 17). I created new VM w/ Centos 7 compatibility and loaded the ISO.

ISO was downloaded from here:

https://next.nutanix.com/discussion-forum-14/download-community-edition-38417

And md5sum matches.

The ISO loads and boots up. I then go through the CLI UI installation and get past to the last screen where it should start installing but then get an error that I need help troubleshooting:

Last Screen:

Then the Error right after the previous screenshot:

Looking at the error, there is reference to minimum requirements but I’m pretty sure I meet them on this VM but if this is what it is, then I can look at a newer beefier server to test on:

8CPUs

24GB of Memory

Sata1 20Gbs

Sata2 50Gbs

Sate3 50Gbs

Anyone seen this error before? Any advise on how to troubleshoot will be appreciated.

Your disks are to little. See the requirements here: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Nutanix-Community-Edition-Getting-Started-v2_0:top-sysreqs-ce-r.html

Hey Jeroen,

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to reply. I will follow up after I increase the disks.

Hey Jeroen,
I increased the disk sizes to 500GB for all 3 drives and the installation appeared to be going through. Honestly, it gets about 99% of the way through and then gives the following error:

I have tried the installation about 5 times now and it always errors out on 2400+ / 2430…

I was able to salvage the /tmp/installer_vm.log file before it got overwritten on the next attempt. I don’t see a way to attach the .txt on here but here is the last 100 lines or so:

So you are installing it nested? (as a virtual machine?). Did you enabled Expose hardware assisted virtualization to the guest OS?

Chris created a nice article how to do this: https://polarclouds.co.uk/nested-nutanix-ce-deployment/

That article is missing the serials numbers for the disks, this is described by Satoshi here: https://smzklab.net/2023/03/ce-2-0-nested-on-esxi-multi-node-issue.html

Hello!

Let me share yet another blog. I wrote an article on how to install CE 2.0 on vSphere 8 in a 3-node cluster.

It's in Russian, but can be easily translated with Google. I hope it will help.

https://vmik.net/2023/04/21/nutanix-ce20-install-esxi-2023/

Thanks! I’ll give these guides a shot and follow up.
