Trying to facilitate the use of Karbon for internal users but they have requested a later version of CentOS. When launching the Karbon Portal the only option to download for the OS Image is currently centos7.5.1804-ntnx-0.0. Is it possible to upgrade this to say CentOS-8.1905?

Hi Jose,
I believe this is to ensure that we keep all current systems running at the latest patch levels to comply with audit, security etc. I believe the latest CentOS for x86-x64 Architecture is 1908, so would expect Nutanix to have this or at least the previous version available?
Hi Andy,
You should treat the CentOS image as a virtual appliance that Nutanix provides to run the K8s clusters with Karbon. This CentOS image comes hardened OOTB (if you need the report of this hardening you can contact your Nutanix account team)
To provide an example, this is like if you are running F5 virtual appliance that uses CentOS and you want to upgrade/patch that CentOS that F5 is providing you. You won't do it because it is a "closed" image.
What we provide with the CentOS image is a managed service experience where customers don't need to worry about the image at all.
I hope this makes sense to you. If you want, we can discuss further. I see you are also UK based, happy to have a catch up anytime if you want to.

Jose

Many thanks for the information; I will look to get the report of hardening for the audit/security teams to peruse. Hoping that this will appease them 🙂 I totally get where you are coming from and appreciate that this is a fully hardened image. Do you have any information as to the road-map of updates to this image that I could share with the internal teams?
Hopefully catch-up with you sometime and have sent you a connection request on LinkedIn. Many thanks for your support and advise.
