@ebrahim212 We at Nutanix support can walk you through hyper-V upgrades in Nutanix cluster. Best course action can be determined only when we can take a look at the cluster. Please go ahead and open a case to Nutanix support.

Hi Haritha Andal,

Thanks a lot for your reply, actually we are plane to upgrade to windows server 2016 because we are unable to upgrade the AOS due to hypervisor running 2012R2.

I have read about how to upgrade the Hyper-V Hosts and I found the following steps:

  1. Disable or uninstall third-party antivirus
  2. Enabling Kerberos for Hyper-V
  3. Run NCC Checks.
  4. Download the Microsoft Hyper-V Windows Server 2016 .ISO file from the Microsoft web site.
  5. Log on to the Nutanix support portal and select the hypervisor metadata .JSON file from the Downloads menu.

My questions are:

  1. Are these steps correct?
  2. All  the Hyper-V will be upgraded?
  3. Is Nutanix Support can do the process ?

Hello @ebrahim212  The only way Nutanix coordinates Hypervisor upgrades in the latest AOS environments is through LCM.

The hypervisor upgrades can be done through LCM. Please browse your prism element and find “LCM”. When you perform “inventory” for the LCM, you will see the available components for upgrade and the LCM should fetch compatible versions of these components if you are connected to the internet.

In case of Hyper-V hypervisors, you will need to verify Hyper-V compatibility with AOS and  and upload it to the LCM utility. The LCM will then perform rolling upgrade of the hypervisors. One great thing about LCM is that there will be no downtime for the user VMs. Please open a support case if you need Nutanix support to run you through this process.
