Hello Community, I have some doubts about running Nutanix on VMWare with ESXi with Cisco ACI fabric. To start, we have already married ourselves to a Cisco ACI network fabric (two sites connected with 12x10Gbit fiber (120Gbit)). We are using an IPN / Spine / Leaf topology, with APIC clusters in each site. In each DC there will be 24 Nutanix Nodes. All of my question have to do with the best practices of integrating these technologies. 1) Is it necessary to use VMware NSX to reap the benefits of Cisco ACI? 2) Can we just use a simple VMware installation (without NSX) and allow Nutanix full access to the ACI fabric? 3) Whats the best practices related to these three technologies coexisting together? I have found documents on Nutanix/ACI and Nutanix/VMWare, but I cant find anything on using all three together in terms of hierarchy and how to stitch it all together. Any guidance from those who have experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Michael
Is it possible for purposes of DR in a cloud solution to move just the VMWare environment?Can you replicate your Production Nutanix VMware environment to a cloud based solution? Say IBM cloud? They say you can but i guess i am having a hard time seeing how that will work? I am really new to the whole cloud solution arena and my company wants to move our DR\Datacenter to cloud? We have business reasons for using IBM cloud but they do not have a nutanix cloud infrastructure but tell us we can bring our VMWare environment.
I am working on setting up a Custom role for end users to self serve market place apps. Problem is that I can’t see where I can remove access to Polices (Image Placement), Hardware (GRU), and Files. They don’t appear to be in the action list.
We noticed that recently in our test cluster all operations take very long to complete. This seems to be due to long lasting “cerberus” tasks being executed with a type “uncharge”. Does anyone know what “cerberus” is doing or how I could speed it up? Whenever we kill the cerberus tasks manually all other queued ‘non cerberus’ tasks start to execute.
HCI runs on ESXi hosts, and VMs are protected with Async Protection Domain. I wonder, how to find which host a recovered VM will be registered with? I guess, it’s a certain service “leader”? Also, can I change it?
On Nutanix cluster , our Oracle workloads are protected via Oralce Data guard. We are looking for some sort or block level replication solution to cut down the Oralce license cost for DR solutions.Does Nutanix or 3rd party application that work on Nutanix cluster have any DR replication (block level) solution for Oracle and SQL server workloads with point in time recovery?I don’t think the protection domain is suitable for Database workloads. Please suggest DR replication solution available for VMs that runs Oracle/MSSQL database workloads.
Not sure why but there appears to be an absence of documentation pertaining to required ports that might need to be opened in a firewall to access the CVMs. Perhaps Nutanix thinks that organizations aren't going to firewall off the cluster to protect access from malicious users. If I'm wrong why don't I see a list of ports that are needed to access the CVMs rather than KB articles showing what outgoing ports are needed in a perimeter firewall? In order to properly protect a cluster the CVMs should sit behind a firewall, which in my architecture this will be the case before we go live with anything. In order for admins to access the CVMs through a firewall TCP 22 is needed for SSH, and 80 and 9440 are needed for accessing the web console. Is this is? or are there more ports that would need to be opened up for the various types of admin interactions? [list] [*]how about running cli tools against the cluster? I have setup Nutanix CE in a lab environment but I cannot get to the Prism page when browsing to the CVM IP address. I'm getting the message: [b]Prism services have not started yet. IHAC who has configured splunk as their remote syslog server. They have also configured “Audit” module for both PE and PC. To test the logging, they are able to see events such as VMs powered off and on in splunk. But they are not able to gather any information on events such as user accounts creation / deletion, as we tried to create some local accounts in PE and PC to test. Do they need to configure anything else to capture such events?
I just want to know if there's a downtime on my Virtual Machines, for example my Main site have an outage then I have remote snapshots to DR site. The question is . . . is it automatically activated or powered ON my virtual machines inside on my remote snapshots or I need to manually activated or powered ON the virtual machines on my remote snapshots?

I have just install Move 4.0.0 and need to set the static IP address. I am using the procedures in the Move User Guide. When I bring up the console from PE, I am having prompt synchronization problems.The prompt appears after I provide the input. For example, I do not get a login prompt, but type the user id, then I get no prompt for password but enter the password. I was able to figure out the sequence to get through the password change without prompts, but now I can’t make it through the static IP configuration.Is any else having this problem and knows how to fix it?

I have AHV nodes which have been disconnected on network, I am looking for a method to delete the data on each node through console locally. Trying to upgrade to a specific version by uploading the metadata and binary of 5.17.1.3. This will make the cluster the same as all the others managed by PC.Currently, the version is 5.15.5.1 LTS.When I attempt to upload, I get this response:Software is not compatible with the current installed AOS version This makes no sense to me in that I don’t care that it isn’t compatible. I’m replacing it with this other version. Is this saying that I can’t go from 5.15.5.1 LTS and that I need to upgrade to a 5.16 before I can upgrade to 5.17? Would 5.16 be compatible?I tried finding the answer in the KB, but couldn’t find it (yet).
WE are running on AOS version 5.1.1.3 and planning to upgrade it. When I checked in Upgrade path, the maximum version I can upgrade to is 5.6.2 I need to know, if I want to upgrade to the latest version which is 5.10.0.1, do I have to follow the path like [b]5.1.1.3 >> 5.6.2 >> 5.9.2 >> 5.10.0.1[/b] , basically a 3 step procedure OR is it that I can upgrade to 5.6.2 only. I had a LCM failure while upgrading firmware on a node. The node entered maintenance mode and I was never able to get it out. I have subsequently removed the node from the cluster so that I can finish the upgrade process. I have successfully completed the firmware upgrade on the other nodes.Now I am trying to upgrade AHV. LCM is failing prechecks with the message Operation failed: Failed to find node <uuid>The <uuid> is the one of the node that is no longer in the cluster. Some how I need to get past this so I can complete the AHV upgrade. I currently have two nodes at the most recent version and one at an old version. Is there someway to bypass the precheck or to modify the LCM data about the removed node so I can press on?

Hello Community!! I'd like to discuss an ambiguous issue.There is an 3-nodes Hybrid Storage AHV cluster set to RF2. In this case, each node has 70% storage usage. Each node’s storage capacity is same.Of course, it's 70 percent overall.The data resiliency status is critical.That cluster has enough CPU and memory. The problem comes up from here.If one node goes down, will data rebuild occur?If data rebuilding occurs, the total cluster capacity will be over 95%.That would cause problems with the cluster's IO. Is there anyone who can clearly tell me how the cluster works in the event of a failure in that situation.
