Hi there!I’ve installed NutanixCE (twice!) on my existing hardware (custom SuperMicro servers, not Nutanix hardware, though they meet the required specs). We found it useful, and decided to spring for Ultimate Licenses for the non-Community Edition. So I’ve got those licenses, but now I’m having a heck of a time figuring out what to download and install! For CE, there was a nice procedure to create an install image on a thumb drive, but I’m not seeing the same thing for non-CE.Can anyone point me to documentation that spells out what needs to be downloaded and how to install it?I’ve already found the AHV admin guide, but that doesn't have installation instructions.I’ve found the “Field Installation Guide - Foundation 4.5.x”, but the “https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Field-Installation-Guide-v4_5:Prepare%20Bare-Metal%20Nodes%20for%20Imaging” section seems impossibly complicated; do I really need to install and configure a VM on virtual box on a laptop in order to
Hi!While reading the documentation for storage QoS the following is mentioned as a limitation:Storage QoS is not supported for Metro Availability, synchronous replication, and AFS virtual machines. What will the actual result be if I apply storage QoS to a VM that I also replicate synchronously? Can I even do this? Or vice versa, what happens if I start replication of a VM with storage QoS?In what way does storage QoS conflict with Metro functionality? Thanks.
We have a couple of 2 node cluster with a Witness VM on a separate host but I can not seem to find any documentation on how to enable SNMP on it.Using the “ncli snmp add-user” command that works for normal CVM’s just throw me the error:“Error: Cannot connect to Prism Gateway”Any ideas?
Hi,Do PD snapshots eventually all expire on my DR site if I lose the primary site (no communication between)? For instance I have a PD with 5 hourly replication snapshots retained locally and remotely. If I lose the primary site but can’t get to the DR site for say 6 hours, will I still be able to recover the PD?Thanks!
Is there a way using PowerShell to assign a large list of VMs to run from only specific hosts within an AHV cluster? Basically is there a way to assign host affinity to a list of VMs? I found commands for anti-affinity using the CLI but could not find anything related to setting affinity.
Hi All I have something odd in my Network view in Prism - I have 3 switches ( 1 switch is a 2 switch stack) but the view shows 5 switches, 2 classified as None. The None entries have the ip addresses of one of the single recognised switches and the stack which is already identified. The other odd thing is that the Nones have ports that I would expect to see in the identified switches. Can anyone tell me how to correct this? We have a very long domain name and with the current config we are using the UPN (firstname.lastname@example.org) name to login. This is becoming very irritating for me to enter the domain name each time I login. Can we configure a default domain for all the login users to use if the user didn’t mention any domain and of course if we don’t have local user by the same name?
Hello Team, I read that starting from Nutanix Files 3.7 is possible to adjust block size of the share. How can this can be done? Not sure is actually possible in Prism (running aos 5.18.1) What block size would you recommended for small files (under 10 Mb the average size) like Excel, pdf, Word and so on? Thank you!
I see that ERA 2.0 has a prerequisite of SQL Server SQLPS PowerShell module. Does anyone know what specific version is required? I ask because when trying to register a single node, I receive the following error:Operation Failed : Unable to import SQLPS module. Please make sure that SQLPS module is available to proceed with Dbserver VM registration.I suspect that the version of SQLPS PowerShell module that we have installed on our SQL servers is too new.
I just upgraded Karbon to 2.1 to gain access to the new support for Calico and was after some tips on how to create a cluster using it for networking. As I understand Calico can only be used if a cluster is created via API and not web UI. I’m assuming this is just because it didn’t make release and not another reason such as it having any issues or not being production ready? Similarly, are there any known issues currently I should be aware of?With regards to the POST I need to make to create a cluster, is there some guidance on setting the options under cni_config, specifically the cidr in ip_pool_configs and its relation to pod_ipv4_cidr, service_ipv4_cidr and node_cidr_mask_size.Thanks,Callum
Hello Team, I’m running a small 3 node cluster, during an AHV upgrade to the latest version one of the servers failed to reboot so AOS started to rebuild trying to restore HA. After several hours rebuilding failed, looking at the logs I saw the message: “not enough space available”. If I’m not mistaken a 3 node cluster can tolerate only one node down, but lets say the two running nodes had enough space, is it possible to restore HA? It basically means that after some time rebuilding, if one of the 2 remaining nodes fails, cluster is still up in a single node mode.Just curious because it looked like AOS tried to rebuild HA despide only 2 nodes were up
Hello Team, is it possible to transform a full-flash cluster to an hybrid one without losing data? (third party platform).Licenses should not be upgraded because SSD space would not change but the necessary SAS disks would be added to add extra cold data space
Hi all.I’ve been trying to figure out how I can execute a PowerShell script inside a guest VM, both Linux and Microsoft, on AHV through the host but can’t find any solid information on the topic. There is a discussion called “Execute Script Inside AHV VM?” but that is only for initial configuration of the VM. I’m looking for a way to execute an arbitrary script on any running VM without having access to the VM through its default network configuration. It’s basically a hosting situation where customer VMs exist within their own isolated environments and I’m responsible for running various scripts for - among other things - joining new servers to AD, installing SQL Server, patching the OS, etc, etc.Looking at this post there seems to be a way to run scripts through NGT but when reading the Nutanix Bible that option seems to be limited to VM creation or cloning.Any workaround I can come up with doesn’t scale well when we reach thousands of VM’s and hundreds of customers. Is there a way to
Please consider the possibility of incorporating the existing IP scheme in the new infrastructure. If changing the IP address is the only option we can utilize a script to change the CVM IP address. You can use the external IP address reconfiguration script in the following scenarios: Change the IP addresses of the CVMs in the same subnet. Change the IP addresses of the CVMs to a new or different subnet. In this scenario, the external IP address reconfiguration script works successfully if the new subnet is configured with the required switches and the CVMs can communicate with each other in the new subnet. Change the IP addresses of the CVMs to a new or different subnet if you are moving the cluster to a new physical location. In this scenario, the external IP address reconfiguration script works successfully if the CVMs can still communicate with each other in the old subnet. Following is the summary of steps that you must perform to change the IP addresses on a Nutanix cluster.
We have a 15 block HPE environment built with AOS 5.15.2. we need to enable flash mode on a NVMe device (vmdk) which is presented within vSphere but cannot be seen via prism element under the VM vDisks or via ssh shell to cvm’s is this feature not currently supported? any ideas I am struggling to find much on the support portal?still unsure on this how do we pin the NVMe vmdk to the performance tier cheers
The upgrade process for the VCSA from a major release to another is as follows:A new VCSA with a temp IP is created in the vSphere host/cluster by the upgrade process. The upgrade process migrates the config/data from the old VCSA to the new one. The Old VCSA is shutdown and the new VCSA is renamed/re-ip with the values of the old VCSA. New VCSA is then rebooted. At this point the new VCSA should have the old VCSA name and IP address. My question for those that have done this already is, how does the Nutanix cluster Prism element reacts to this in regards to its vcenter registration? Will all this be transparent to it or will it see the new VCSA as a new device and create a duplicate entry? I assume the migration process will copy SSH keys and certs from the old VCSA to the new one so Prism won’t bat an eye, but I just wanted to confirm.
We are looking to do application-consistent snapshots of VMs running recent releases of RHEL, CentOS and Windows Server on AHV. However, the following document indicates that releases such as RHEL 7.4+, CentOS 7.4+ and Windows Server 2019 are not yet supported: Conditions for Application-consistent SnapshotsIs anybody having any issues with application-consistent snapshots for these releases? Some of these OS versions are not even that recent - RHEL 7.4 was released in August of 2017!
Hello ... can anyone provide feedback on getting Network Visualization working with Cisco Nexus 9K Switches. The Nexus Series is on the Supported Switch list, but I've had a ticket open with Support for weeks and we can't get it working. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v510:wc-network-visualizer-supported-switches-r.html LLDP is enabled globally on the 9K, and I can populate the 9K switch info into Prism just fine. The issue is I can't get any port data. Nutanix Support is saying the issue is by default the "port-id-subtype" is set "locally-assigned", and it needs to be changed to "interface-name". The 9Ks are in ACI-Mode, not NX-OS, and no one seems to know how or where the change is made. Has anyone gotten this setup to work? Here are some pics from my environment. Thanks! [img]https://d1
Operating System : MS Window 2012 serverHypervisor : AHVIssues :A windows server with the above mentioned OS is running on Nutanix Cluster (AHV). The VM is not able to access via the PE while launch console it show a black screen. However, its still able to RDP into the server and the applications is still be able to access. But after awhile i presume all services went down and the above is not viable anymore. Have to hard reset the VM, after which the virtual machine power up and its not able to detect the virtual disk (the virtual disk is still physically within the cluster). Have to repair the operating system and reinstall the virtio drivers to recover the disk. This happen often, can i check if there are anyone who have experience it and also have a resolution to it. I have did some research online. Seem like its the VirtIO having problem . Will need to install the latest KVMnet drivers but i do not if this actually applies on AHV (as its based out on KVM) . Appreicate any inputs
Hello All, I have 01 NX-1065-G6 block including 3 nodes. AOS Version : 5.10.5 AHV Version : 20170830.279 After a power outage, I would like virtual machines to start automatically in a predefined order; for instance, domain controller first, Exchange server secondly, and so forth... With ESXi I can do this in a very simply manner. How to do this with AHV ? Please help. Thanks.
Using the RestAPI, we are able to pull around 300 metrics from Nutanix. Do you have a document which explains what all these metrics are, similar to the page we have for the metrics available via SNMP (https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v511:man-nutanix-mib-r.html)
Hey guys,I’m new at scripting/coding with python, I am trying to make a script that will automate adding a proxy, proxy whitelist and remove whitelists. This is what I have so far, but whenever it runs I get an error of “Error: Argument 'http-proxy' is specified multiple times.” import subprocessimport sysadd_whitelists = "ncli http-proxy add-to-whitelist target-type=IPV4_ADDRESS target="whitelist_Ip = ["192.168.1.1", "126.96.36.199"]login = "email@example.com"add_pxy = "ncli http-proxy add name=NPX5-proxy address=proxy.npx5.local port=8080 proxy-types=HTTPS"list_proxy = "ncli http-proxy get-whitelist"#ssh connectionssh = subprocess.Popen(["ssh", "-i .ssh/id_rsa", login], stdin =subprocess.PIPE, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE, universal_newlines=True, bufsize=0)# Send ssh commands to stdinssh.stdin.write(add_pxy)for ip in whitelist_Ip: ssh.stdin.write(a
Hi, I’m looking to understand the possible values for group_member_attributes in the POST /v3/groups request. I’ve gotten some examples from debugging the Prism UI requests (e.g. “project_name”, “vm_name”), but is there a full list published somewhere? I’d looked in the API docs and had a search of the forum but couldn’t see group_member_attributes detailed - apologies if I’ve missed it. Thanks in advance.
