There has been always slight confusion as to what of the 2 commands to use while destroying a cluster - cluster destroy and cluster -f destroyThe difference between the two are cluster destroy : This will clean out all the data on the cluster and wipe out all the configurations. cluster -f destroy : This command does the exact same thing. Also it will bypass any check for any service on the node. It grants permission to destroy cluster even if zookeeper node is not accessible. Think of it as forcefully destroying the cluster. Always make sure to reclaim licenses before destroying the cluster to follow best practice.Licenses can be reclaimed via the portal or can also be reclaimed manually via SFDC.If licenses are reclaimed manually following commands need to be run once they are reclaimed:ncli -h truencli license reset-license
In this topic I will share how to configure an SMTP server on your Nutanix cluster. This can be done from the Prism UI. This is pretty simple and straight forward. Below is the link shared, that discusses how to configure a SMTP server- https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA032000000TTWtCAO After the SMTP server is created, the email alerts should be tested if they are being sent from the cluster. SMTP always uses port 80 and 8443, so make sure that these firewall ports are open. You could send test emails to verify correct SMTP configuration. This can be done using the KB2773. I will attach a link to the KB below. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA03200000097qFCAQ Hope this piece of information is useful!
Well, we all know how important firmware upgrades are and it is done using our LCM framework. In case of single node clusters, we do have to do our firmware upgrades manually as LCM framework does not work on them. Here let’s take an example of doing BMC upgrades manually. It is always suggested to do BMC upgrades if any before the BIOS upgrades. I am attaching a link to a document below that describes the steps to do BMC upgrades manually. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA032000000988sCAA Hope the document is useful information.
Lets start small! In this topic I will share how you can know your ESXi version on the cluster. I understand that you want a quick way to verify ESX version on Prism, in Prism, although we do show the Hypervisor the cluster is running on, but currently the Prism UI does not show the hypervisor version. Perhaps a command may fit better your purpose. For this you can issue the following command from any CVM. nutanix@cvm $ hostssh "esxcli system version get" The above, will query each node to find out the version of ESXi it is running. Alternatively you could also use commands like- nutanix@cvm $ hostssh vmware -v (command specific to ESXi hypervisor) nutanix@cvm $ hostssh uname -a (hypervisor agnostic command)
Hi all, did you guys know that AHV to ESXi conversion is only possible from Prism (Convert cluster option) if the cluster was earlier Esxi converted to AHV and being converted back to ESXi. AHV to ESXi conversion is not supported from the Prism. Some pre- requisites for converting AHV to ESXi via prism are-https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v55:man-cluster-conversion-requirements-limitations-r.html#nref_amd_hlp_k5 However one could always re-image an AHV node to ESXi manually. Before converting the cluster, customer should always migrate the running vms on the AHV cluster to their DR cluster. This can be done using Protection Domains. More information on Protection Domains can be found below: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Prism-Element-Data-Protection-Guide-v511:Prism-Element-Data-Protection-Guide-v511 or also refer KB-3059 https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA03200000098T7CAI Once cluster is c
