There would be scenarios where in a system administrator or an engineer managing a Nutanix cluster would want to say: Perform some action like shutdown, power-on, delete, take a snapshot, clone etc ib bulk or on multiple VMs at once with some matching critearia such as say common Starting names, or common ending names, some pattern in names and all the powered-on UVMs etc. One way is to one-by-one go and perform that action from Prism for each of those VMs which is very tedious in scenarios where say we have 20 VMs etc on which we want to perform same actions say like shutting them down. What can we do ? In such scenarios we can use some basic shell scripting along with aCLI(Acropolis command line tool). So aCLI is a cmdline tool for managing hosts, networks snapshots, UVMs etc on a Nutanix cluster. Here is a document which explains how to use aCLI https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Command-Ref-AOS-v5_17%3Aman-acli-c.html. So below are some
Say you have 20+ PE clusters registered on PC and want to check the NCC versions installed on those clusters to keep a track as it can get really tedious to go to each PE cluster and check isn’t it. Not to worry there is an amazing feature on PC to save you from all this hassle i.e the amazing “REPORTS”. So using Reports on PC, we can create a Data Table to get the NCC versions of the registered PE clusters on PC and what not. Now this data table can be downloaded in CSV or PDF format or even be emailed to the concerned recipients.Reports on PC More information about Repots can be found hereThe Reports dashboard on PC allows you to create and run reports about the entities and metrics of your choice.I would strongly suggest you all to go and try out this amazing feature of Prism Central and see it yourself that how much of your time it can save, from making EXCEL sheets and maintaining data.Go to Operations → Reports and create a new Report:Create a new report and this page would pop u
The Nutanix REST API allows administrators to create and run scripts on their Nutanix clusters. On a Nutanix cluster: API v1 and v2 runs through the Prism service. API v3 runs through Aplos services. Both of the above are services running on a CVM/PC-VM in a Nutanix cluster. Prism: Prism is the management gateway for component and administrators to configure and monitor the Nutanix cluster. This includes Ncli, the HTML5 UI, and REST API. Prism runs on every node in the cluster and uses an elected leader like all components in the cluster. All v1 and v2 API calls runs through Prism. Aplos: It’s an intentful orchestration engine + intentful API proxy. All v3 REST API calls runs through Aplos. Looking at the logs of the above 2 services can tell us a lot of things about our REST API and HTTP issues on PC-VM/CVM. The logs for these services are located on a CVM/PC-VM at: API v3 logs: ~/data/logs/aplos.out API v1 and v2 logs: ~/data/logs/prism_gateway.log HTTP defines a set of reque
USEFUL COMMANDS TO TROUBLESHOOT PE-PC CONNECTIVITY ISSUES We have lots of scenarios where you might see alerts related related to PE-PC connection failure. This generally happens when network connectivity between PE and PC clusters are disrupted due to any reasons such as PC VM being rebooted, upgrading PC cluster , network issues, HTTP proxy issues(incorrect proxy whitelists) and port issues etc. Firstly, when does PE-PC connectivity alert is raised on PE: 1)The alert is raised when PE-PC connectivity was disrupted for at least 6 minutes as of AOS 5.10.(Prios to AOS 5.10 alert is generated at a single instance of 2 minutes) Sometimes, PE-PC connectivity checks shows red heart on Prism even, if the connectivity is fine and none of the above reasons are present. In this case i.e if you verify there are no underlying PE-PC connectivity issue present, manually reset the check. Turn the check OFF and Turn it back ON from the Health page by clicking on this check like this below.
