Hi, When using AHV, is there a way to set the black (pre-boot) screen in the VM duration longer. I was trying to press the F8 key, to get into directory restore mode/safe mode, but the black (pre-boot) screen raced by... Thanks G
Hi, We just fired up a 3 node cluster HX1310 with AHV. Trying to keep things lean and mean... When a Windows guest needs more CPU, is it "better" to go with more vcores or more vcpu in AHV? I'm asking from a performance perspective and perhaps licensing perspecitve..... Thanks, G
Hi, We have a Windows 2012R2 HyperV host with about 8 Windows 2008R2 VMs. These VMs are Gen1 using .vhdx as the file system. I'm currently running Ntnx 4.7.4 and was wondering the following: Does the image service import .vhdx files or do I need to use qemu-image ? If I use something like Starwind V2V converter, it supports QCOW2 and RAW, is there a preferred Ntnx format ? (Image inserted below) Does the SMB version on the CVM have unique specifications ? I was trying to use Storagecraft Shadowprotect Recovery options (Linux based) but it would see the UNC?Thanks in Advance, G
Hi, I have a standalone ESX 5.1 server with a VM with multiple 2TB (screenshot from WinScp attached below) vmdk volumes. VM is Windows 2008 R2. My Nutanix cluster is running 5.01, NCC 3.0.0.2, AHV 20160925.30 - Starter Edition I am planning to use a Windows 2012 R2 server with WinSCP to get the vmdk files onto the Nutanix cluster container (I have multiple containers) and then use the Image service (via Chrome browser) to upload/convert via UNC to the container. Here are my questions: I'm wondering if there are any limitations on the Image Server when using the Chrome Browser Any potential issues with these vmdk sizes? What is the syntax for the URL to access the Storage Container so I can upload the vmdk without using the UNC? -Figure this one out. In Image Service use nfs://clusterip/Containername/name ofvmdk-flat.vmdk Since I need to upload multiple vmdk files that quite large, can/should I open multiple browsers to get simultaneous uploads happening ? TIA, Gen
Hi, Running 3 node Lenovo HX1310 with AHV 5.01. I will be opening a ticket with Nutanix support. This more of an FYI.... First saw this issue with and SBS 2011 Standard (aka Windows 2008 R2 x64). After migrating from Hyper-V 2012 R2. I was/am having issues where the system would freeze. I first thought it was ShadowProtect backups causing, but then it started happening late at night. I think its the WBengine Service (aka Block Level Backup). I setup a fresh test Windows 2008 R2 with 2 volumes, C: and E:. When I ran chkdsk on the c: drive it gets to the end, stage 3 of 3, and then the VM powers off. I have to start it manually. So I tried it on the E: that has no data is freshly formatted. I run chkdsk, and the VM powers off. Update:Just tried the same chkdsk /f on a Windows 2012R2 server and the same symptoms appear. Thanks in Advance, G
Hi, I apologize in advance for the long post !!!! From the information I've reviewed, the Xpress Models (I'm looking at Lenovo's offering) will support a maximum of 4 nodes. In addition there is no Protection Domain. Let's pretend that I'm a cloud provider for multiple customers, and I host their (Domain/File/Print/Email/Sql) servers in my 4 node domain. I want to use an (Acronis/Storagecraft) in VM backup software. These products store their backup images to a NAS/Share. If I setup a second 3 node Xpress Model that is storage "heavy" running Acropolis File Services, as a NAS/Share destination for my backup images, is there any restriction that you can think of that would prevent/limit me from doing this ? Right now we use StorageCraft and save to a Windows Storage NAS that has RAID 10 and I'm concerned that writing to will not be able to handle the I/O? I'm guessing that the 3 node Xpress AFS will easily handle intensive I/O writes. On weekends, the Full backup runs a
Hi, Has anything changed with the single node target where I can can use it as an iSCSI target or SMB target for Storagecraft Backups ? Thanks, G
Hi, I'm planning a 3 node Lenovo 2320-E node. The most it will ever grow, is to a 4 node. Each node has a 4 x 1/10Gb BaseT network card (IMM/IPMI) connection is separate. The max number of VM's will probably never exceed 16 (Windows 2008R2/Windows 2016 ) The priority of importance in this case is: Reliability Lowest Cost Performance Network Config Option 1 (1 switch 1 GB ports only): Purchase 1 switch with dual hot-swap power supplies. (Not to jinx myself, but switches have a low fail rate) Setup each node as balance-slb, with 4 x 1Gb BaseT Network Config Option 2 (2 switches 1GB ports only) Purchase 2 switches, each with a single power supply Setup each node as balance-slb, with 4 x 1Gb BaseT Network Config Option 3 (1 switch with both 1 & 10Gb BaseT) Purchase a switch that supports mixed 1 & 10Gb BaseT ports Setup each node as balance-slb and use 2 x 10Gb (of the 4 ports) My understanding of balance-slb is I will have 4Gb of throug
Hi, Just wanted to find out if AFS is included in all version including Express and Starter Editions ? If yes, are they limited in some one when compared to the higher end versions ? Thanks G
