@joshodgers has posted an interesting blog on his site on a new AHV feature -- Compute Only nodes. The concept of Compute Only node will enable infra teams to give their application and DB admin counterparts more CPU/Memory per node. Nutanix clusters can now be made up of compute only and storage only nodes minimizing if not eliminating any licensing concerns they had in the past for workloads like Oracle, SQL Server etc. Best practices for setting high performance databases will be coming soon. Tim Wallace, who leads out public sector solutions marketing efforts has a Nutanix community blog coming out talking about the value of Xi Leap for Public Sector including education institutions. Nutanix also has numerous service provider partners (www.nutanix.com/x-powered) that offer Nutanix powered DRaaS for customer's hosted and on-prem deployment. Share what you are doing for your different workloads in your environments (Nutanix or otherwise). -- To optimize storage capacity and accelerate application performance, the Acropolis Distributed Storage Fabric uses data efficiency techniques such as deduplication, compression, and erasure coding. They are intelligent & adaptive, and in most cases, require little or no fine-tuning. In fact, two levels of post-process compression are enabled in conjunction with cold data classification by default on new shipping clusters. Because they’re entirely software driven, it also means existing customers can take advantage of new capabilities and enhancements by upgrading AOS.
