@db808 Understood the requirement, however Nutanix does not recommend connecting 3rd party storage devices as this can have a negative effect on system stability and may result in unexpected downtime. Nutanix installations are meant to only manage local storage resources and uses settings for storage optimization which may be incompatible with 3rd party storage devices. Note: 3rd party storage should not be connected to a Nutanix system as it can cause outages because APD is disabled. Would like to share following KB which has above details 3rd party storage might cause issues on a Nutanix system https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000CtelCAC And because of above recommendation there is no / not much AHV documentation available. @fredzone.net Backplane networks are non-routable subnet and cannot be used for replication, backplane networks are purely for CVMs / Hosts and for Intra cluster communication only and not for intercluster. In your case, you got to use different subnet/VLAN for other cluster. And the failure you are observing is as per design, more likely.
@kent Default gateway is only needed on networks when no route specification matches the destination IP address of a packet. Since current implementation of backplane network involves CVM and hosts using the same subnet, there is no need for the traffic to be routed, said that, we having the gateway set will not make any difference for the backplane traffic, so to keep it simple, we do not need to have default gateway set for backplane traffic. @Eric-The_VikingMore likely this is a defect, would appreciate if you could open a case with Nutanix support to check this out since this needs more investigation and following some KBs
@pjoy Nodes that use different CPU generations cannot be mixed in the same block. So a -G4 block must contain only -G4 nodes, a -G5 block must contain only -G5 nodes, and so on. Nodes that use different CPU generations can be mixed in the same cluster. No additional configuration is required in AOS or AHV, but 3rd party hypervisors require the configuration of CPU masking in order to support live migrations of VMs across nodes of different generations. Mixing nodes within the same cluster from multiple hardware vendors is not supported. However, you can manage separate clusters using the Prism/Prism Central web console regardless of the hardware/vendor type. @pjoy, I would like to look into this, would you be able to share more details on the limitation you mentioned ? More details i am looking for are as follows Number if nodes in the cluster Node model/models Specific node which has the limitation / Number of HDDs/SSDs of this node Is this a new deployment or was there any change to the setup which lead to this limitation ? Where exactly you are seeing the limitation of 64TB, can you share the screenshot or description ?
