5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
@HPN The containers are mapped to the esxi host as datastores, so you would simply provide a container name that correlates to the esxi datastore: Datastore $vmLine.Datastore
@HPN Based off your response I would then recommend writing the script for PowerCLI and connect to the esxi part of the environment for creating the new VM’s https://code.vmware.com/forums/2530/vsphere-powercli#580519 $fileName = 'whatever.csv'foreach($vmLine in (Import-Csv -Path $fileName -UseCulture)){ $vm = New-VM -Name $vmLine.Server -VMHost $vmLine.EsxHost -Datastore $vmLine.Datastore -Template $vmLine.Template Get-NetworkAdapter -VM $vm | Set-NetworkAdapter -NetworkName $vmLine.Network -StartConnected}
Hi @HPN I am still working on this one but am glad to share what I have so far to assist you: Link to CSV for creating multiple VM’s https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yvxXVAc7mn4NHrZmv02boTb4lVhV4JJK/view?usp=sharing https://github.com/cloudcor-ntnx/ntnx-ps-advanced/blob/master/new-vm-from-csv.ps1 It essentially loads a csv files with the values necessary and then does a foreach loop on each object in the CSV.
Jose, Yes it can be deployed on a single vLAN ( also referred to as a flat network). Just leave all defaults for networking, and configure an IP on the network (vlan) that will be used. “Add the Controller VM and the Acropolis hypervisor to the same VLAN. By default, the Controller VM and the hypervisor are assigned to VLAN 0, which effectively places them on the native VLAN configured on the upstream physical switch.” https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=AHV_Admin-Acr_v4_5:ahv_acr_nw_mgmt_c.html Thank you!
mjack, First Id start with basic network troubleshooting. Is IPMI interface showing a link and cabled correctly Is IPMI on the same network you are on (ie. connected to same vlan / subnet) Basic network troubleshooting (ie. can you ping the IP) Should the above not point you to the issue then it would likely be an issue on the networking side. (on different vlan, switch port not enabled / configured etc) If you are going through a firewall to get to it then it could be firewall ports not being configured. https://blog.rapid7.com/2013/07/02/a-penetration-testers-guide-to-ipmi/ Please review and let me know if you were able to find this helpful.
Hi Mandg! Since the CVM’s are the storage controllers for the environment we would not want to disable NFS. This is particularly true if the hypervisors are ESXi ( ref: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA032000000TStNCAW ) Note the following: CVM, Stargate service is always listening on ports 2049 (NFS), 3261/3260 (iSCSi), 445 (SMB), no matter what kind of hypervisor we are using. This can cause security scan warnings for vulnerabilities on CVM in the environment. Please review and let me know if you have any additional questions. Thanks! DannyR
David, Apologies for the delayed response, I would begin with some PING tests on the network to those IP’s to completely rule them out as being used. If you are certain those IP’s are available then there may some cached configuration data that needs to be cleared / reset. Thanks, DannyR
Hi Nyth, Reviewing your requirements for separate stacks, if this is to separate Dev / Prod but wish for them to continue to share resources then were talking about a logical separation via network segmentation: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000CruqCAC Please review and let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks, DannyR
Hi Ruud, I have reviewed this and found the following Open vSwitch documentation: http://docs.openvswitch.org/en/latest/faq/configuration/ As this post is quite dated please review and let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks, DannyR
Hi @TonyGolightly, Apologies for the late reply here but yes it is possible to modify the minimum_requirements to install a nested community edition version. Instructions can be found depending on the target platform: http://www.vryan.co.uk/index.php/2015/06/17/how-to-setup-nutanixce-on-vmware-workstation-11/ Let us know if you have any additional questions or comments. Thanks! DannyR
Hi @Jayakumar, NGT provides additional Nutanix functionality as described here: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v55:man-nutanix-guest-tool-requirements-limitations-r.html https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Tools/index.html Where as VMware tools can essentially be thought of as the drivers package for VM’s on esxi hosts. As these function independently for different functionality they can both be installed. Thanks! DannyR
Hi @andymlloyd, Thank you for identifying the work around there and have ran into the message myself. As you mentioned we will monitor for the next update to report if the issue is resolved. Thanks! DannyR
Hi @Jegan S, This would have to depend on the overall networking environment, the ability to configure vLANs on your switches etc. As far as creating a Network with a single physical uplink, you would have to create the Bridge & Bond (virtual switch & NIC team of a single NIC), then update with which NIC you are wanting to be the uplink for that Bridge. If you have more information on your networking environment I could provide more details. Thanks, DannyR
