Bonjor will not properly resolve the .local. and cause an error. You must have IPv4 enabled to allow for .local. resolution[/list]- IPv4 must have an autoconfigure IP address….169.254.x.x [list] [*]If you are assigned a DHCP IPv4 address it will fail as you are not on the same subnet as the Nutanix Nodes[list] [*]One caveat to this is on a cluster that was destroyed via Cluster destroy will retain the IPv4 addresses. I agree Josh, I am doing a deployment of 320 nodes this week and all have been done from a helper VM. The datacenter is miles away. Much more comfortable as well. Setting Native /default VLAN is the most important part if doing with the helper VM. Tony (Nutanix SE Midwest)

OS Gold Image Best Practices | NTFS Allocation Unit Size

Hello, as long as you are using a newer OS. Win7, Win8, Server 2008 or higher we do not need a particular block size. If on an old OS I would suggest, although not requried to align to a 4k block size. FIO Test

How many VMDK disks per VM? If only one you probably are hitting our oplog limit per vdisk. Try creating multiple disks and see if that extends the time before degredation. Thanks,

NOS 4.0 upgrade path

Nutanix SRA

Nutanix SRA is required if you wanted to use SRM with Nutanix. The SRA is the "Storage Replication Adapter" that each vendor must provide to VMware for SRM to interact with thier specific storage device. With the Nutanix SRA it allow you to utilize the entire feature set of SRM with Nutanix Protection Domains. Tjagoda, please open a support ticket even about the DAG disconnect. I do not consider that acceptable. I am sure Josh Odgers or someone can help fix this on the Exchange side or we can address our HA.py script. Lets not just settle for acceptable, we want to make our product the best. Replication to secondary on-site datastore

Yes you would have to use some type of Software replication if going from Nutanix to some other type of system. Example that would work are Zerto, VEEAM, vSphere replicatoin to name a few. Thanks, Tony

KVM Hypervisor - Management

Here is my checklist for migrating VM. Any issues please let me know. I have done this 3 times following this and have had good luck.1. Mount KVM container up to ESXi.a. Whitelist the ESXi host on the KVM PRISM UIb. ESXi can now mount the NFS datastorei. nfs://x.x.x.x/2. Use Storage vmotion if you wish to move the VM or copy command via the datastore browser.i. The only file that matters are the _flat.vmdkii. When doing Storage vMotion be sure to change disk type to thick provision lazy zero3. Create a new VM on KVM with vCPU and memory requirements.i. When assigning a Hard Disk choose clone from imageii. Choose the Template/ISO and _Flat.vmdk file via / keyiii. Choose IDE for the disk bus type4. Mount the virtIO drivers on the CDROM drive of the new VM5. Power On the VM and open Console6. VM should boot up, and you will need to go to device manager to give the VM the KVM drivers. a. Choose update driver and point the VM to the VIRTIO CDROM drive to choose the driver.b. Reboot the VM a

How do you get your protected vms to power on when you migrate an Asnch DR Protection domain?

Hi Erik, I would recommend opening a support ticket for this issue. I believe that it should be powering that VM on at the remote site. If it is not we should file a bug to get that resolved, which support can do. Thanks for being a Nutanix customer. Tony

Maximize IOPS and Storage Bandwidth for VM

The best way is to give the VM multiple disks. Also if possible increase queue depth of the apps so you have multiple drivers of storage. Single IO is slow in general so getting a multithreaded IO is key to driving a lot of IO. Use LVM if needed to make a large drive out of multiple disks. This will give you the most performance, just like CPU and RAM, when you add disks you add more performance to the VM with Nutanix. Tony

SRM will not change the snapshot time. You are still limited to the native nutanix snapshot increments. SRM is also really nice for the use of DR testing. You can click the test button in SRM and it will simulate a failover without actually downing your running prod VMs. It will put all recovered VMs in a private non-uplinked network so you dont have IP issues or same computer on the network issues. I think this is the #1 feature of SRM. One big issue with SRM is that it was created for use with block storage, so all of our per VM replication is thrown out the window with SRM. You will need to organize your SRM policys by placing the correct VM's into specific datastores. Tony

We are always trying to improve the product, and this has been an area that we want to improve on. You will see a semi sync as some point. So it will attempt to send bits over to secondary site asap but not require an "ack" like sync would. I will leave it at that :) ThanksTony

File level backup and recovery with Acropolis hypervisor

Hi Dan, We will be having our "Nutanix DR" capabililties in our 4.5 release upcoming. That would be Nutanix to Nutanix replication. Our product team is working with other "ecosystem" vendors as well so we can have 3rd party support for Acropolis hypervisor. Veeam has definitly been discussed as a great partner we would love to have as a partner with Acropolis. Tony

The downside of running low of free space

Hi  This is why Compression is always recommended and dedupe only in specific use cases like full clone moved desktops. If you are using cloning you get the benifits of 100% dedupe without any metadata overhead.
