The “Failed to reach a node where Genesis is up” could mean that node is not completely unconfigured yet. Typically if it is unconfigured and not part of a cluster, only genesis and zookeeper is running. These two services are stable and if you enter “cluster status”, it should show that the cluster is not configured. So it should be a matter of properly unconfiguring it. We do have an internal KB for it, so it would be easier to open a Support case if you wanted to go down that route. (KB 3436)
Hey @RahulT, I created a post on this yesterday. https://next.nutanix.com/how-it-works-22/migrate-vm-s-out-of-ahv-37927 Let us know if it works. Cheers!
Hey @sysvialink, Have you figured this out? The spec for cloud_init should be like this. "guest_customization": { "cloud_init": { "user_data":"<BASE64_ENCODED_CLOUD-INIT_SCRIPT_STRING>" }, "is_overridable": false } For the string, it can be shell script/JSON file but it must be base64 encoded. Take a look at solution 2 of -https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000CshJCAS
I guess what @Herve means is if the two nodes of a 2 node cluster is placed in separate rooms and a Witness in a third room. I don’t see why it would not work as long as the latency requirements are met. Here is a tech talk explaining the same.
Hi @Charu, Do you have Prism Central deployed? You could see it in the Audit logs. Please take a look at this post I replied a few days ago. https://next.nutanix.com/server-virtualization-27/logging-vm-activity-events-in-prism-37561?postid=51909#post51909 However, if you don't have a PC, you may have to do some digging through logs, specifically this log file - /home/nutanix/data/logs/consolidated_audit.log Let us know if that helps!
Hey @Nagarjunb, it seems something is broken on dev.nutanix site. But your API call should be correct. We will look into this. If you have a Linux machine, you can curl the same information. In the section where you put in the parameter details, if you click on ‘Code Generation’, you can see the request sent out. Just copy it out and run it from any Linux or even a CVM. So the request would look like this - curl -k --request GET --url https://<PE_IP_ADDRESS>:9440/api/nutanix/v2.0/cluster --header 'authorization: Basic xyz' Notice I added a ‘-k’ in the curl request to create an insecure connection. I would not recommend in production clusters.
Hey @BlakeRobertsNBL, Yes we have had this ‘Audit’ feature since AOS 5.10 in Prism Central. A lot of common VM CUD actions such as changing power state, cloning, adding disks/NIC’s etc are audited operations. Please take a look at the below document. https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details/?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-Prism-v5_17%3Amul-explore-audits-view-pc-r.html Also if you like to forward these logs to a remote syslog server, check this out. https://next.nutanix.com/installation-configuration-23/remote-syslog-server-37791
Yes you can install the features AFTER migration is complete!
@mandg 5.17.1 should be released in the next few days. We are targeting early July. Protection Domains and vmotion could have similar results as we have seen discrepancies with the PC VM UUID post migration. PS: You have mentioned above you are not using CALM, but I wanted to point out as well that the new solution cannot be used if you use Karbon/Objects/CALM and a couple more PC only features.
Hey @mandg, I would suggest you to wait for migrating the Prism Central. Using Data Protection is not a supported method currently to migrate Prism Central VM(s). The main thing to be concerned about is if the IP address will be different for the VM in the new cluster. We have a supported way of doing this coming up in AOS 5.17.1 and it basically works like HA. Power off the Prism Central VM(s) on source cluster and create them on the destination cluster. If it is possible to wait until then, I would suggest going via that route. Also, you would have to open a support ticket for it as it’s planned to be in an internal KB (for now).
