hello jon, I. I understand VG is for ISCSI protocol usecase. and there is a customer just prefer to using ISCSI then NFS in ESXI environment. When can VG be used ? and is there a plan to support VG/ISCSI with ESXI future ? 2. Vmware cluster/HA can use two server for working, What`s the reason nutanix don`t support two-node cluster ? roadmap plan ? 3. I have heard many times about Acropolis File service. What is it ? how it works ? CVM act as a traditional file server with large storage ? but I understand VCP platform is designed for Virtual environment only , not for other traditonal storage and file service !
Hi Jon, thanks you for repy, relly make sense for understanding. As your suggestion,I`ll learn Bible first and go back RE Failure Behaior in a 3 node cluster after two NODE fails, cvm cluster is down. I just wonder if data will lost and how to recovery it with only RF2 scenario. in my opinion, there`s one copy of data in the remainning node ,and Data should survive, despite RF2 can`t continue working. all I should do is repance two new NODEs. of course,I`ll read bible first tring to understand it
Hello Jon, What me confused is while installing hypervisor and NOS using Foundation tool. I found AOS and phonex is exactly in the same process page and selection location. So I simply thinks they are same. look at it. old version foundation tool uses phenix+Hypervisor ,but new foundation use AOS+hypervisor. If there`s guide showing it clear, that`s be better. I can ignore the difference and just install node step by step, but understanding concepts clearly helps me better. hello jon, I have the same question: Can nutanix works well without DNS and NTP ? because NCC check reports an error "FAIL: Unable to get configured fqdn for host: " and I tried resolve ip to domainname failed in ESXI CLI. but can resolve name to ip. the user told me they did`t allow dns reverse resolution. But NCC reports error everytime running it. Can I ignore this ?
Hello jon, AOS 22.214.171.124 NCC is bundled with AOS4.6.1 The user has DNS server onsite, but DNS server supports only forward lookup and deny reverse resolution. and NCC check reports it as an error. So I`d like to confirm if I can ignore the error, and maybe mask NCC DNS check script. also if other users even doesn`t have a DNS server, Can nutanix works ,need special configuration ?
Dear Jon, Thanks for your detailed reply. I`d like to confirm these further more: --RE ECX-- You mean ECX and block awareness function can`nt be used together as of now. But I think most users will need block level fault-tolerant and decrease RF data( more usable capacity) in the same time. also 3 block is a conventional config, need more block to enable ECX together ? --RE RF3 to RF2 change & RE Foundation RF2-- Just want confirm difference and relationship between Cluster-level and Container Level RF? In particular, if Cluster-level set to RF3, can container-level be set to RF2 and RF3 (I mean different containers with different RF, I know a container can be set only one RF type simultaneously ) ? As a opposite, If Cluster-level set to RF2, can container-level be set to RF2 and RF3 ? In my Current understanding, Cluster-level controls RF of some cluster components , e.g. Zookeeper and Container-Level for usual vm data. Also RF of Some cluster components ev
Hello Jon, Thanks for sharing your insight. Basically I should deploy 4.6.2 release, and even if there`s not explicit new feature requirements (e.g ABS,AFS,container) currently, I`d like to have 4.7.0 installed now, Who knows new requirements come from user suddenly someday. users just don`t like to update AOS ,while running production application on it, even thought update can be done online theoretically.
Hello Jon, There are different customers with different conditions or circumstances. also not the same standpoint and viewpoint. I have seen some users who wouldn`t like to update os/software/firmware of production systems , if the system is running well now. I think it`s mainly for stable running currently, for unplanded outage occured some times indeed, no matter caused by Technical personnel mistakes or vender update bug. They will update the system, only if have to use a new feature or encouraged by vender there`s an important bug in the current release have a high possibility to hit, even if after hitting a bug making system down. I think doubts will be eliminated after some successful cases in their environment.
Hello , So just use one pair of 10g switchs (2x 10 switchs refer to 2 switchs toal ? not four ?) and run all the traffic ESXI(mgmt, vmotion, vmkernel port for NFS mount; vm data; nutanix prsim mgmt, cvm cluster) ? leave nutanix 1g unused ？ If there`s almost no performance difference between two 10g switchs architecture and four 10g switchs architecture, we`ll choose the simple one certainly. but if there`s strict network rule for some users, for example, they have just two 10 switchs and don`t have uplink connection(just like traditional scale out nas internal clustering network switch which doesn`t require uplink) , so if ESXI mgmt and prism mgmt run on 10g switchs, I`ll can`t connect the ESXI and prism mgmt interface ! . in addtion, Can configure another dedicated port for prism mgmt other then using same ip for both cvm data and mgmt ?
Hello , I uploaded the snapshot just now. I`m confused with the guide and there may be some typo in guide too. My scenario is client plan to migrate some dimm from other NX-1065-G4 (owned by himself too) to the NX-1065-G4. now the 1065 has 6 dimm total, and I just want to ensure if 6x dimm confuration is supported by model 1065-g4，if yes, which slot is recommended.
Hi, Nutanix uses RF2/3 to protect data. your question is related to traditional RAID protection. There are many disk failure scenario leading to different result. bible will explain this detailedly.
