5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
Awesome, that post from Stephane is exactly the one I had come across previously. Thanks! As for the driver behind Metro for VDI; its a direction from our CIO following previous instances of hardware failure taking out our production site. The goal is to move to a full Active/Active solution for all infrastructure; reducing RPO & RTO across the board and having provisions for seemlessly migrating all processing to either site without any downtime.
Currently piloting our new VDI infrastructure... We've had the NTNX clusters for over a year, but constant struggles with UniDesk & Windows 10 compatibility has slowed things down... We've now dropped UniDesk from this project & instead using Full Clone VM's, on a NTNX Metro Cluster for Active/Active support across our 2 primary sites. Today is day 1 of the staff pilot & looking good so far, though we only have a limited number of users.
I think the only way you'd be able to use the migrated VM's would be to create a new manual pool on the DR side & manually add the recovered VM's to it. We've got a similar requirement (2 sites, active/active), but instead of using Async, we use MetroAvailablity. This means while we have 2 seperate NTNX clusters, we have a single vSphere cluster, so no problems with View not knowing about VM's whichever site they're running from... Obviously this has some additional overheads (you need a good WAN link, we've got Dark Fibre at ~1.5ms latency) plus makes managing the VM's a bit more difficult (you can't do linked clones on non-metro datastores as View will not show a datastore if all hosts can't see it); but for us the overall solution works out great.
Perfect, thanks for confirming @Nupur.Sakhalkar Hopefully we wont need to get to that, and we’ll get on top of the decommissioning. But re-assuring to know no functionality will be lost, just in case. Thanks!
