5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
ANY Nutanix node will always deploy a CVM. A CVM is the heart of Nutanix and that’s where the Nutanix software runs. Regardless of node type, a CVM will always be there in any node.
Hey @MiguelMartinez I think if those VMs have been powered off for that long, chances are, you will never need them again. They only consume storage as they are powered off and you can see in Prism how much storage they are really consuming. If you really want to reclaim that storage, I recommend storing a backup of those VMs on some external device so you can truly release that storage from your Nutanix. Yes you can create a restore point using the “Data Protection” menu and that would allow you to recover those VMs in the future even after you have deleted them but that restore data will still be stored in your Nutanix so it kind of defeats the purpose. The good news is - You have plenty of options :)
No VMs will be impacted by this process. CVM and other User VMs will remain intact.
Hi @simonep So glad to see you are starting your journey with Nutanix 👍🏼Another great resource is the Nutanix YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/nutanix
Good morning @GarySmith Unfortunately doesn’t seem like we can get the OS computer name via API. I can only see the OS name. See screenshot below.
Hi @Joseraeiro This article applies to NUTANIX FILES which is an optional functionality available in the Nutanix Platform. Are you sure you have FILES running in your Nutanix Cluster? If you are trying to manage VM Snapshots, then you may find this more useful: snapshot: Snapshot
Yes. It is fully supported: SolarWindsNutanix provides a rich SNMP MIB SolarWinds NPM can use to poll data.
Hi @Anandu Glad to see you are growing your Nutanix infrastructure. One of the great benefits of this platform is you don’t have to worry when you add new nodes that are different in model, generation or configuration. You got your process right: Upgrade the existing cluster to the latest NCC/AOS/AHV LTS versions. AOS 5.20.4.6 is your best bet in this case. Once the current cluster is up to date and healthy/resilient (green hearth in main console), simply follow the “Expand Cluster” procedure described here: Expanding a ClusterThere’s no risk to your current workloads.
Hi @Anandu Nutanix Software Upgrades are non-disruptive. No downtime is required, so if you have a healthy cluster and all the software pre-checks pass OK, there’s nothing to worry about. \Yes, you can directly upgrade from 5.20 to the latest 5.20.x LTS. Please use the LCM menu option in Prism to determine the best compatible version. i recommend you to stay in the 5.20 families in this case. No need to go to 6.xAs per my previous post, just follow the LCM upgrade procedure and let Nutanix handle the rest. Enjoy the magic of Nutanix. :)
Hi @BOUHIA Not sure what you mean by “grant the required permission”. You have full access to all your Nutanix components including APIs if needed.Your Nutanix Prism console provides all kinds of health metrics related to Hardware, Storage and other components. Which specific Nutanix components are you trying to monitor in Solarwinds and which Solarwinds module are you using? NPM, SAM, VMAN ?For example, Solarwinds VMAN is ready to monitor your Nutanix AHV environment as you can see here: https://www.solarwinds.com/virtualization-manager/use-casesHowever, if you are looking to monitor Nutanix Hardware, make sure you have reviewed the requirements here: https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-nutanix-hwh-requirements.htmYou need to have Solarwinds SAM 2019.4 and later or VMAN 2019.4 and later and a Nutanix Cluster licensed running AOS 5.15 or higher. If you have Solarwinds SAM, you can use the SAM API Poller feature to test the Nutanix API from
You don’t need to register all clusters in PC. As long as they are all managed by the same vCenter, you can simply migrate the PC VM from A to B using your vSphere Client.
Hi @SamD Syslog is a cluster-wide setting in Nutanix. Yes, CVMs run the show in Nutanix, but they are always active-active and mostly share all responsibilities in the cluster. You can enable syslogging for specific Nutanix components/processes, though. Also keep in mind, CVMs send system audit logs to the syslog server by default even when no specific modules are configured.More details: How to Send Logs to a Remote Syslog Server
Afinity rules are totally independent from data copies (replication factor).A VM with or without affinity rules simply resides on Node X. VM Data copies will reside on Nodes X and Y (RF2).
