That’s correct.
Hi, These steps are also outlined in the Setup Guide. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Files-v35:fil-file-server-fsvm-login-t.html
Sorry for the late response, I would suggest to log a case with our Support team if not already done in order to better support you. This will also help to understand the problem.
If I understood this question correctly, you are looking for container access so you can explore the content in a container. Use Following Steps to access containers :- Using WinSCP or Putty, connect to a CVM using SFTP protocol and port 2222 using Prism element credentials. I have tested this using WinSCP, I am sure the same steps will work using Putty as well.
What is root squash?
Root squash basically remaps the root UID from 0 to an anonymous user with no privileges. This means that root is stripped of all privileges and is not able to read any files which are not world read or write to any paths that are restricted.
[root@NFSClient ~]# id -u 0
There are two directories in this example.
# ls -ltrh /mnt/nfs total 1.0K drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 7 Nov 24 2018 files drwxrwxr-x. 2 piyush piyush 3 Nov 24 2018 Piyush
So the permission to root is not there, which is because of following setting. Squash Type : ROOT_SQUASH, which is by default.
[root@NFSClient piyush]# touch root.txt touch: cannot touch ‘root.txt’: Permission denied
But once it's changed to "Squash Type : NONE", root user star
That is correct, Files uses Nutanix core DSF framework since data of Files is stored on AOS. The service is called Curator which takes care of this. I would highly recommend to read https://nutanixbible.com/#anchor-book-of-basics-distributed-system However, if the space reclaim seems like a problem and is not happening, please reach out to support to investigate. Ideally space reclaim should start to happen in the span of 8 hours.
Well as of now it's by default. However, this a good feature to be added. As workaround, you may try to create a container with the name you want to use for your container in the SP. For instance, pre-stage your container on the desired SP. Nutanix_<>_ctr Let me know if this works.
Hi, sorry about the late reply. I am not sure what AOS version you are on. System managed flag is removed from container once the file server is deleted post AOS version 5.10.1. This can be done using ncli command. Are you familiar and comfortable with ncli command line options?
Yes, you are correct with your understanding. 1 TB is free depending upon your AOS valid license. I assume you already have AOS license. Nutanix File license is the option you should go with. it's priced based on used TB. Note :- Usable TB includes (data + Snapshot).
Most of the queries are answered in above responses. However, I want to highlight two points based on my experience :- Microsoft User Profile Disks is a feature to store user and application data on a single virtual disk that is dedicated to one user’s profile: Nutanix Files does not support UPD as of now, due to limitation with it's SMB implementation. Reset User Profile from Citrix Director on a Distributed Share :- You might be unable to reset User Profile from Citrix Director with "Error 0x5, Access is denied.. Aborting..". By default Nutanix Files do not allow delete/rename of top level directories (TLD) for non-admin users. Reach out to Support if you need help.
Nutanix Files creates a container for every file server instance you create. A file server must have its own dedicated container. Since this is dedicated to a single File Server instance, it is marked as system managed which means you will not be able to modify the settings. Some other useful information :-

Once a Nutanix Files cluster is deleted, the container can be deleted from Prism UI. This is applicable from AOS 5.10.1 onward.
A Nutanix Files storage container should not be used to store Non-Nutanix Files data.
Enabling de-duplication on a Nutanix Files storage container does not yield results. Hence, it should not be enabled on a Nutanix Files cluster storage in use, unless it is recommended by Nutanix. Nutanix has introduced a new NCC health check ( NCC 3.7.1) file_server_container_check to flag this. It verifies if On-Disk Dedup is enabled on the container used by Nutanix Files.
On a Nutanix storage container, compression is
