5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
@SeanG Have you tried using Microsoft MDT and OSDBuilder PoSH module within the cluster to avoid having to upload the image? I’m trying to find an alternative to MDT for a specific use case but it could help in your situation. I have the 2016 or 2019 WIM file update monthly through OSDBuilder with a script which gets imported into MDT and a task runs to deploy to an AHV VM with various software. Then I use Nutanix PoSH Cmdlets (When are the modules coming?) to clone the vDisk to the image service. Here is the script that updates the OS wim and imports it into MDT. This module could also create an ISO and during the New-OSBuild command, it can enable Windows Features, and regkeys, files/folders, or anything you can conjure with PoSH. Import-Module "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Deployment Toolkit\bin\MicrosoftDeploymentToolkit.psd1"$date = (Get-Date -Format yyyyMMdd)$CurrentOSMedia = (Get-OSMedia -Newest -OSInstallationType Server -OSReleaseId 1607).NameSet-MpPreference -DisableRealtim
Thanks @Neel Kotak for the reply. Actually when the power event ended the Nutanix cluster did power back on. I did NOT need to manually press the button. Is that the default setting and is there a way to change that if it was necessary?
Thank you for the confirmation.
Thank you. I will test out those changes and report back.
It was changing the screen to never turn off in my case. Thanks again.
I’d like to find out similar information. I know Prism Central can be configured to send to syslog but what about Prism Element? Further more what about failed login attempts to the console? For not just known users but perhaps to find out if our system if being probed for logins. Are there more logs on the CVM that can be forwarded to Splunk/Syslog? @Hong, sorry to hijack your post.
Wow. Sometimes the related topics actually work. @Hong, found this doc on configuring Prism to send logs. AOS 5.20 - Configuring the Remote Syslog Server Settings (nutanix.com)
Now the question is which log would capture login attempts?
This could be accomplished through a powershell script with the Nutanix Cmdlets or with something that accesses the REST API of Prism.
Install the Nutanix Powershell Cmdlets from the Prism console on to a system that can access the cluster. And then the script is fairly straight forward.Connect to cluster Power on first VM Wait for a set number for minutes or use a ping command to determine network status Power on second VM Repeat steps 3 and 4Below is some fairly crude code that should work.[cmdletbinding]param( [Parameter(mandatory=$true)][String[]]$VMNames)$ntnxpsLoaded = Get-PSSnapin -Name NutanixCmdletsPSSnapin -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | %($_.Name)if($ntnxpsLoaded -eq $null) { Add-PSSnapin -Name NutanixCmdletsPSSnapin}Connect-NTNXCluster -Server <DNS/IP> -UserName <acct> -Password (Get-Credential).Passwordforeach ($VM in $VMNames) { Set-NTNXVMPowerOn -vmid (Get-NTNXVM -SearchString $VM).vmid Start-Sleep -Seconds 300}
