Local means it will be on Karan server. Local is only required when you are using CredSSP for authentication. As an alternate you can define the variable in the Application profile and use it in your cloud init scripts. Instructions are below for configuring the variables in Application profile, https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Nutanix-Calm-Admin-Operations-Guide-v57:nuc-adding-configure-application-profile-t.html You should have a default Application Profile already in the blueprint, you can configure the variable in the default Application profile. When you define variables in the Application profile you need to just refer to the variable as @@{variable}@@ in the scripts. So, in your case if your variable is IP_Address then just refer to it in the Cloudinit script as @@{IP_Address}@@.

Acropolis service doesn't have any control on the config done directly on OVS so a host reboot will lose the config 2. When the vm gets shutdown and started the config is lost. 3. When the vm is moved to another host the config is lost. The feature request logged is to support this as a acropolis feature as OVS supports it already.
As of now it is not possible to sniff packets from physical devices external to Nutanis. There is a feature request logged for this capability. You can only sniff packets that are originating or destined to AHV vm's by using the network chain functionality.
Are you looking to sniff only packets destined/originating from vm's running on AHV? or do you want to sniff packets from physical devices outside the host?

Normally pinging just the hostname works when you the computer is part of a domain or has domain search suffix configured. When you ping a hostname, at the backend dns resolver will automatically add the domain part to the hostname to make it as an FQDN and will ping the FQDN. This will be clearly evident when you ping using the hostname from a PC joined to a domain. For example you can see the following ping by hostname, PS C:UsersAdministrator> ping afsPinging afs.sol.local [10.xx.xx.xx] with 32 bytes of data:Though i pinged the hostname you can see the first line of the ping results say pinging fqdn, since the PC is part of the domain sol.local. Since CVM is not part of any domain and has no dns search suffix configured it will not be able to ping using hostname.
