For most of my vm’s that are in protection domains, the snapshot option is grayed out in Prism Centeral.  Hovering over the option I get a popup with message “One or more of selected VMs is protected via legacy DR feature.  Snapshots for these VMs can be taken from respective PE clusters only.”  This option is not grayed out for vms that are not in protection domains.  Why is that?  What are legacy DR features?

Hello Antonio,

That link redirects to https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details/?targetId=kA00e0000009E0XCAU which is a blank page. (After I authenticate)  Can you post a working link or a pdf of the kb?

Thanks

Sorry Mike,

Here is the content of the KB. Let me know if this helps.

This issue can be found when a customer is using Prism Central to connect Xi-Leap or Leap PC-PC, and is attempting to protect or take a snapshot of a VM from Prism Central when the VM is already protected by a legacy DR (Async).

When attempting to take the snapshot of the VM from PC, the "snapshot" option will be greyed out and a message will be displayed saying "One of more of the selected VMs are protected via Legacy DR".

PC-error

This is an expected behavior as Nutanix Engineering do not want to mix up the PC workflows with those of PE. In future releases of PC, the error message displayed will be more descriptive to what the corrective actions are with respect to the issue.

If customer wants to move from Legacy DR and start using the Leap (PC) workflows, they will need to first come out of legacy workflow and from that point, start using PC-based workflows.

That answers my question.  It is too bad that that is the case though since role based administration is way better in Prism Central.  It would be nice if Nutanix Engineering added some additional tasks for snapshots that can be connected to roles in Prism Central. That way you could designate users a subset of vms that had console access (which you can already do in PC) and were allowed to snap and restore.  The api backend is already there in PE to allow snapshots so it wouldn’t take much to wire it into PC. I guess I will send in an enhancement request.  Is there any place to see and upvote enhancement requests?

I agree MrMike,

To ask for a RFE you must open a case and select issue type RFE, Request for Enhancement.

The RFE will be added to an ENG or FEAT.

The ENG number can be referenced to the customer to watch for their release in the release notes.

We use the cases to upvote the ENG/FEAT tickets.
