BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE Questions?

Hi Everyone,

I want to ask some questions.

I have 1365G6 , and then there will be two 8235G7 and one 8135G7.

When all 8000 join 1365, there will be a total of 4 blocks and a total of 8 nodes.

If I enable BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE, how to calculate the available space ?

After enable BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE can I remove the two 8000s and reinstall them as a backup cluster?? Or can it return fault tolerance domain to nodes?

Thanks

Hello Wei,

The block awareness feature doesn’t effect available space calculation at all. You should refer to KB article 1557 for guidance on calculating the useable storage space on your cluster.

When you remove the two 8235G7, your cluster will only have two blocks remaining and so it won’t be able to maintain block level fault tolerance. At that point the cluster just go into a standard node based fault tolerance.

Hi Sedward,

If I have 5 blocks with 8 nodes installed in the same rack, will you recommend to keep using RF = 2 or 3, or will you use fault tolerance domain to block instead?

Thank you

I think I would always try to enable block fault tolerance if you have the hardware to support it. You should refer to this document for more info on these settings:
