Hello, I am still waiting for a reply here? Can anybody reply to this topic please?

Is the most recent Xtract Appliance version able to migrate VMware ESXi Windows 2012R2 VMs with UEFI enabled to Nutanix AHV without any further hassle or is this to be doomed to failure?

Hi @Didi7

Unless I am missing something the limitation here is not with the Xtract, but with the limited UEFI implementation AHV/AOS. The following documentation for AOS 5.10 still shows that UEFI VM migration from ESXi to AHV is not supported, see: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Migration-Guide-AOS-v510:vmm-supported-source-hypervisors-r.html

And the following KB shows the possible workaround and will includes re-install/deploy new VM on AHV and migrate application to the new AHV VM: https://portal.nutanix.com/kb/5622

Hello RichardsonPorto,

thanks for the prompt reply. Does the same apply to Hyper-V VM (based on Windows Server 2012R2 with UEFI) migration to AHV with Xtract Appliance?

Ok, let me try to be more specific again. According to this page ...

https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Xtract-for-VMs-v11:v11-xtract-vms-support-os-r.html

... Windows 2012R2 VMs with UEFI enabled (Generation 2) running on Windows 2012R2 Hyper-V cannot be fully migrated to AHV. Only the data can be migrated, but not the OS.

So, in case of Windows 2012R2 VMs with UEFI enabled running under Windows Server 2012R2 Hyper-V, you need to re-install the OS, configure it again and need to install all applications again to migrate such VMs to AHV?

Is this still true?

Thanks in advance for any prompt answer.

Any chance of an exact answer, so that we can further plan the upgrade?

Hello, I am still waiting for a precise answer to my last question regarding migrations of Hyper-V Windows 2012R2 VMs with UEFI enabled to AHV.

Would anybody from Nutanix or enough insights let me know, if these kind of VMs can be migrated without any hassle or is only a data migration possible and no OS-migration?

Thanks in advance.
