Nutanix Disaster Recovery

How can I copy guest VM's couple WIN2012R2 and Cent0S off to a network file share? Need to ensure I have backups prior to testing cluster convert. Thanks in advance

I have a question about the “protected VM’s” in VEEAM for Nutanix. In the beginning, we had a problem with a Exchange Server logs. when the backup was complete with VEEAM for Nutanix the Logs from exchange are not truncated.The workaround was to create a new job directly on the VEEAM Server and configure the VSS to truncate the logs. It’s working fine! But the problem now is : the exchange server is in the Group of protected VM. When we try to delete from the protected VM group , the VM comes automatically in the group after 15min. Anyone have an Idea? Because the problem is now we have 2 different backups of the same VM.

HI Everyone!   Can you map a test network in a recovery plan to both the production network and the Test network at the recovery site?  Nothing in the documentation around this.  Our customer has VLAN 2 at the recovery location (isolated) and this is the network that matches current VLAN 1 in production.  Since it’s isolated, they also want to use it for testing. Hi All, I'm wondering what configurations people have on Async Protection Domains? How many VMs per PD Create many PDs and group by application/department/roles eg[list] All Web servers in one group, all SQL servers, all application servers All HR based systems, All IT based systems, All Fiance based systems Is there a limit on how many PDs you can have in a cluster What's the dis/advantage to having fewer large PDs over many smaller PDs What frequency and retention are the local/remote snapshots What issues arrise when activating a PD I believe the IP address will be removed and the MAC will change...correct??, any scripts or automation applied?[/list] Thanks for any response you can give. Hi, I couldn't find this in the documentation. As I understand, the choice of Async DR vs Backup is to be made at remote site configuration. I would like to replicate some VMs for DR, and some for backup only. Is it possible to create two remote sites in a cluster pointing to the same remote site, thou allowing to have one remote site set as " Async DR" and the second one as "Backup" ?

We are evaluating a Nutanix solution vs a normal 2012R2 HyperV with VNX SAN cluster. As we are a Microsoft shop, we are going with HyperV to reduce licenses. We have an HO and a DR site for Disaster Recovery. Our normal HyperV design involves having a HyperV cluster in each site with HyperV REPLICA to replicate data to the DR site. We have calculated this to give us an RPO of 30 seconds (HyperV Replica can even go to 5sec RPO) and an RTO of 15mins. Does Nutanix have any replication methodology that can give us a similar RPO? It looks like the RTO can be reached, but the RPO is at least 5mins and can't go below. Note that we have to use a HyperV engine and not VMWare. If this cannot be done with Nutanix replication, will Nutanix support a HyperV REPLICA between the 2 sites?

How we take backup of VM, What are the diffrent ways for that out side of the cluster.

Hi All We are just bringing a new Nutanix Block online and starting to move some production VMs.With our Veeam backup testing we are seeing noticeable stun (in some cases up to a minute of VM unavailable) issues with snapshot removals that are done as part of Veeam backups. We have a veeam proxy installed on the nutanix NFS datastore, and are running vsphere6, latest Nutanix OS, etc. and latest version of Veeam 9.5.I did find a article on Nutanix forums about forcing NDB/network mode to help with this and this did improve thing but not enough to call it resolved. I cannot have my primary SQL server stunned every time we do a backup, so this is a bit of show stopper at this point.Just looking for ideas at this point?Jeff

trying to connect the maxCapacity and totalImplicitReservedCapacity fields with data from Prism gui. As of yet, unable to connect the dots. I'm assuming the amounts being presented from the cmdlet is in bytes. Does anyone know if/how I can get a count of all vDisks in my cluster, including vDisks associated with snapshots? We want to increase our data retention and it appears the limitation on snapshots is the number of vDisks so I need to figure out how many we have with our current number of VMs and snapshots. Running AOS 5.6, NCC 3.5.2, Hyper-V 2012r2. Any help appreciated, please let me know if there's more info I can provide. Thanks! David

Looking to protect VMs running in production on Nutanix AHV to a DR site running Non-Nutanix VMware ESXi hardware. Currently VEEAM seems to only support “Instant Recovery” to vmware. Which seems to mean the VM is running from the backup file. I suppose at this point you could vmotion to permanent storage. Unfortunately there’s no way to know how slow this will be even if the backup repository was on the same san. Curious if there is any other backup software that makes this process a little more direct, or if anyone had expereince with this type of recovery. Thanks in advance.Currently looking at: CommVault; HYCU, scripting exporting and importing disk files, praying nothing ever breaks, crying.

Hello, Has anyone had success making Hyper-V VM level backups up in to the cloud? We were going to use DPM to send backups up there but it requires an agent to be installed on the SMB server so it wouldn't work on Nutanix. We also looked at Azure Cloud Connect to replicate our containers to Azure but that is backing up at the container level and restoring an individual VM can be difficult. What have you been using to achieve offline VM level backups? My organization's goal is to go back to any point within 35 days and the backups must be in the cloud(Amazon or Azure, prefer Azure).

We are currently considering implementing NearSync for a DR with an RPO of 15 minutes.   Is there still a cluster limit of 40TB in 5.16? I can't find anything more specific in the documentation. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Prism-Element-Data-Protection-Guide-v5_16:wc-dr-near-sync-requirements-limitations-r.html   The restrictions that backup tools like rubrik or netbackup cannot take normal snapshots when nearsync is active should be solved in 5.9 or not?

With this new product comes a change to how Veeam licenses their products. All new products released this year will be per VM only and socket licensing is gone. As I understand it, customers who already have socket licenses will be able to renew their product, but what if they jump to AHV? I'm pretty sure Veeam counts this as a new contract as you purchase Veeam with your Hypervisor type. This means you too may likely move to a per VM model of licensing. But, isn't this a good thing? Doesn't it reduce my costs? That is up for debate per environment. I just wrote my Veeam account rep about this licensing change and gave him the reasons why I don't want a per VM licensing model as a Veeam customer. Here's a copy of that message. Hi, I’m new on the Data protection feature. I’ve done the a test VM migration to another nutanix cluster. The thing is after the migration, the VM on the source will be destroyed. I’m planning to use the Data protection to migrate the VM from the source cluster to the target cluster. I would need to failback the VM to the source VM. Am I able to restore the VM on the source site?
