Nutanix Disaster Recovery

I cant seem to find any info in the manual on how to manage consistency groups assigned to entities?

Is anyone using the Nutanix SRA in conjunction with Site Recovery Manager (SRM)? What are your experiences good, bad, or otherwise? We are currently using a vSphere replication server/appliance to replicate from one Nutanix cluster to another and it is working perfectly fine. I'm tempted to investigate Nutanix's SRA as a potential replacement, but as they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I would be interested to hear overall experiences as well as any viewpoints that are able to compare the Nutanix SRA against VMware's VRMS. Thanks.

Hey guys,I made a quite new discovery that is totally new to me and I try to understand where this is comming from, maybe someone can help :)Scenario: There are 2 ESX clusters, connected via Metro. The DataStore on the source site is ~2TB, the datastore on the destination is about 1TB and I have no clue why :)Both DataStores only use compression, there are no other snapshots on the source side and this is for a couple of days now, so no curator run should be involved. Ideas anyone? Cheers, Flo

If anyone is using HYCU to back up their AHV environment, please let me know your feedback. 1- Is the product good and acceptable solutions to back VM on AHV? 2- How was your restore experience, when you had to recover a VM or file or app data? 3- How is the support? 4- Is their documentation clear and easy to follow on any KB or DIY. I heard a rumor that for 4.1.1.3 the Protection Domain limit will be 100 machines per Protection domain. Any truth to that rumor?

Later I’ve created a specific container for testing purpose called “Replica-Container” on both sites I’ve moved some test VMs to that specific container and and I’ve created a manual bi-directional syncronous replica between both sites. I’ve manualy added the test VMs to the protection plan and I’ve waited some time for them to replicate between sites. Finaly I’ve created two different Recovery plans Recovery Plan1 - recover VMs from site1 at site2 Recovery Plan2 - recover VMs from site2 at site1 I’ve validated both plans (succesfuly) and I’ve performed a Test.The initial test worked fine for plan2, however Recovery Plan1 shows this error:  I assumed that I should have to wait more t

Dears:I checked the “Nutanix Disaster Recovery Guide” and found from AOS 6.6, CG replication was supported on async replication, but not on nearsync or sync replication. Any ideas about CG when support near sync replication?The reason why I will have this question is we want to use CG nearsync replication to protect SQL server cluster. (Our RPO is about 10-15 mins), so I am worried about during planned failover or unplanned failover, the SQL server cluster could not start normally. Thank you very much!

Hi, I'm struggling with backups while using KVM. We've been using snapshots for our standard backup process and these work just fine within the cluster. I can recover a VM either as a new clone to retrieve lost files or to directly replace the original in case of a major crash. My next problem is exporting those snapshots to another cluster (since DR isn't available for KVM yet) or to a non-Nutanix archival server. That appears not to be possible. Everything I've been suggested so far involves backing up the VM internally or copying the iSCSI device with dd which would involve us having two completely separate backup processes running in parallel. Not fun. Is there a way to export the Nutanix drives to another server? Logically they must exist somewhere so should be copyable.

Hello All,We have a Nutanix POC and I am playing around with the permissions. I am trying to create a role/category for our Cohesity backup. What entities are needed for the role. I assume cluster and VMs, but I am getting “Requested entity doesn’t exist” when trying to add the Nutanix source to Cohesity. It works fine when I add the source with a Prism Admin account. Can anyone point me to the proper permissions needed. TIA TJ

We are using the Data Protection v4.1 API compute-changed-regions endpoint from Prism Central 7.5 (AOS 11.0.0.1) to retrieve changed regions for VM recovery points.For most VMs, the workflow completes successfully. What options are available within nutanix to speed up replication to a remote site? The best i am able to get on a single stream is about 20MBps (160mbps) with an aggregate speed of about 60MBps (480mbps) spread out over several streams. However, we have a 10gbps link between sites, so i expected to get better throughput.

Hello Community,I want to configure replication and failover plans between 2 separate Nutanix clusters, both running ESXi hypervisor.I do have Vmware SRM licenses and I am aware of these 2 possibilities :1. Replicate VMs using Nutanix Protection Domains (either with Async DR or with Metro Availability) and configure Failover scenarios with SRM via Nutanix SRA2. Replicate VMs using VMware vSphere Replication Appliance and configure Failover scenario with SRMMy question is which of the possibility would you recommend ? which is better in terms of performance and flexibility ?Thanks.

Hi All, i'm using Networker to backup VMs over Nutanix/Hyper-V, the VM itself is being backed up but the config files.XML is failing for some reason related to access permissions. Any idea how to change permissions on datastore or config files? Thanks, Pierre

I’m currently backing up to AWS with AWS set up as Async DR site.  However, the price that AWS is charging has dramatically gone up.  Are there any alternatives to AWS?  I don’t need to run any VMs on the remote site, just a remote site to store my snap shots and the ability to restore easily. Thanks!

Hi all, For a customer, I have a many-to-one replication implemented. On the DR-site, I want to back-up all VMs on the AHV cluster with Commvault... However, because the VM's are in a protection Domain, Commvault cannot discover them, so a back-up is not possible... Solution might be to export all vms from the latest snapshot, backup the vms, and delete the exported Vms from the DR cluster. I tried to do this with the Powershell shell cmdlets, but not successfully... Anyone tried this before? Regards, Bart

Hi, we are a IP Telephony company and we are looking for an option to have a better backup system on our servers.We currently have 2 servers running ESXi. One live server with all our VM for our clients and one backup server. Nutanix seems like a good option for us to be able to have a backup system always live and not having to boot up any VM manually.If I wanted to start using Nutanix what would you recommend as best practice for a switch from ESXi to Nutanix?I just started looking into Nutanix and it seems like a great option with all the redundancy and self healing feature. I was wondering where I can find prices for the OS or access to the technical support. I can’t find any option list of subscription or price range for their OS.

Hi guys, Is there a way to change the min. snap retention count for local site AND remote site? We have a PD wich has two schedules. -every 60 mins - keep 3:3 -every 24 hours - keep 4:4 The problem now is that if for example the replication of the 60 min schedule fails because of network problems, or because the replication takes longer than normaly, the snapshots on the remote site expires. So let's say the disaster happens monday night at 1am. If the first admin arrives at 7am, every 60min snapshot will be expired and we can only work with the older 24hour based snaps. In the nutanix kb i can only find this article: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA0600000008dn2CAA which says: "...It's also important to note that the min-snaps value only affects local protection domains, not remote sites..."

Is anyone using Veeam to backup their virtual environment on a Nutanix cluster? If so, how have you configured your backup proxy (how many, virtual or physical, 1 arm or 2 arm configuration, etc)? What are you using for a backup target? What kind of throughputs or processing rates are you seeing? I am running some test jobs, and a few of the jobs I have run identify the soure (Nutanix) as the bottleneck in the job. My backup proxy is a VM with a 2 arm configuration (1 vNIC in the production storage VLAN and 1 vNIC in the backup storage VLAN) running in Network Mode. I'm wondering if there are other modifications I can make to alleviate the source (Nutanix) from being the bottleneck in the jobs.

Hello, New to Nutanix. I'm trying to add VM's to a protection domain via the webconsole, but some VM's I want to add aren't showing up. What's interesting is on the VM sumary page in Prism shows I have 66 VM's, but vCenter shows 81. Is there an easy explanation for this? I am on Esx 5.5 and AOS 4.5.2 Thanks!

Netbackup 8.1 was released yesterday. One of the features is "NetBackup for Nutanix – Parallel, scale-out backups of Nutanix clusters". Seems to only support full backups. Hi, We are looking for a solution to restore the VMs running on Nutanix AHV to a vSphere (SAN based) environment. I've heard that HYCU can do backups on ESXi non-nutanix, however is not clear if I can restore VMs running on AHV to ESXi non-Nutanix and vice-versa. If HYCU is not the answer, is there any other vendor that can achieve this goal? Nutanix AHV backup/DR to ESXi non-Nutanix. We need to run the VMs on ESXi non-Nutanix in case of Nutanix/Primary DC failure.
