There has been always slight confusion as to what of the 2 commands to use while destroying a cluster - cluster destroy and cluster -f destroyThe difference between the two are cluster destroy : This will clean out all the data on the cluster and wipe out all the configurations.  cluster -f destroy : This command does the exact same thing. Also it will bypass any check for any service on the node. It grants permission to destroy cluster even if zookeeper node is not accessible. Think of it as forcefully destroying the cluster. Always make sure to reclaim licenses before destroying the cluster to follow best practice.Licenses can be reclaimed via the portal or can also be reclaimed manually via SFDC.If licenses are reclaimed manually following commands need to be run once they are reclaimed:ncli -h truencli license reset-license

We have several AHV clusters across the WANscape all managed from Prism Central. On one AHV cluster, I created a Windows Server 2016 and a Windows Server 2019 VM from CD ISOs, patched and tweaked and these are our “Golden Images”.  I clone those and run sysprep and those are what I make new VMs from. Now I have two problems: 1.) in each cluster we have an RF2 container and an RF3 container so these VMs are bound to one or the other, and 2.) how do I get these to other clusters? To address the differing containers, I end up using the image service (create image of the disks and create new VM from those disks).  But now I’m wasting storage because I’m keeping copies of the same VM on two different containers. To address the differing clusters, I was thinking about setting up Protection Domains and letting Nutanix replicate them to each cluster.  They would only get updated once or twice per month for Windows patches.  Doing it this way would allow me to

Who can say they have never experienced a VM boot issue? We have all been there. Something quick and easy like creating a VM from scratch or powering up one after migration. Annoying but can be solved. On AHV the root cause may be hidden in one of the below: Incorrect boot device selected. Incorrect boot mode is selected: BIOS or UEFI. If the virtual machine was initially created in UEFI boot mode and then boot mode was changed to BIOS or vice versa, then VM will fail to boot. VirtIO drivers are not installed in the guest OS - results in PSOD also known as blue screen of death. VirtIO drivers used to be installed but are removed after a sysprep. Just a reminder today that Nutanix does not support USB passthrough on all platforms/hypervisors. There are no plans to support USB passthrough on Nutanix platforms due to security concerns and due to the fact that it affects features such as live migration, HA, 1-Click upgrades and more. Alternative If you need a guest VM to access USB devices, using AnywhereUSB is a valid solution. This solution uses a USB hub accessible over TCP/IP. A driver is installed on the VM and it emulates a USB device connected to the hub as if it was directly attached to the VM. HiI have installed 3 Nodes successfully nested on ESXi 6. the cluster and all nodes services are up. Was able to connect to prism and changed the default admin password. unable to login with new password.... prism keeps on showing "server error" If anyone was able to resolved this... pls help

 Anecdote by @Kiran Surya  Nutanix users and administrator are often required to access the CVMs, Hypervisors and IPMIs through their IP addresses.  The most commonly used method to look at the IP addresses of these three entities is through Prism Element, and going through the Hardware tabs.  However, looking through the GUI can be time consuming since you are required to click on every Host to view the IP address details of all three components.  It’s all the more cumbersome if you have a huge infrastructure, like say 24 Hosts.  It would be ideal if there is an easier process to list all these pieces of vital information.   I happen to use the following combination of characters to list all these three pieces of data, and needless to say the customers are delighted when they see me run this command:  nutanix@NTNX-7B43JB2-A-CVM:10.171.154.127:~$ nutanix@NTN

For most of my vm’s that are in protection domains, the snapshot option is grayed out in Prism Centeral.  Hovering over the option I get a popup with message “One or more of selected VMs is protected via legacy DR feature.  Snapshots for these VMs can be taken from respective PE clusters only.”  This option is not grayed out for vms that are not in protection domains.  Why is that?  What are legacy DR features?

I have a client that is running Version euphrates-5.5.9.5-stable LTS - Starter License They have cleaned up some disk space inside of a windows guest vm.  They would like to reclaim that storage space from the virtual disk. Shrink it from a 3Tb to a 2Tb virtual disk.  Is there a way to do this? Thanks

The pasword for nutanix user was reset on the prism central system and now I am unable to login even though I am sure the password is correct. It seems it may have become unknown due to the console setting for special characters. In this case how do we recover login access to the node. I didnt set another sudo or other user for this system either.

Hi Guys, I have a nutanix block with four nodes. I mean four node cluster.  Supermicro NX30-60 I have a query about fault tolerance. Currently it is set as RF-2 Each node  has 6 disks. 4 hdd and 2 SSD 4*800 gb hdd 2* 200 gb sad OS is AHV.  1) Assume, if one host completely fails, then the vm will be restarted on other host and it will continue to run without any issues.  2) If one disk fails(either HDD or SSD or both at the same time)from first AHV, then there will be no impact.  3) If two disk fails from two hosts(1st  AHV and 2nd AHV) at the same time(assume one HDD fails on both the nodes), then what will be the impact for all the running vms in the cluster?  4) If two disk fails from two hosts(1st  AHV and 2nd AHV) in different time I. E 30 mins gap(assume one HDD failed in 6AM in first node and another HDD failed at 6.30 AM in second node), then what will be the impact for all the running vms in the cl

Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a protocol for clock synchronisation between computers. The hosts and CVMs in a Nutanix cluster must be configured to synchronise their system clocks with a list of stable NTP servers. Generally, at least 1 (one), but preferably 3 (three) or more reliable off-cluster NTP servers are configured on the cluster. To avoid split brain scenarios, it is always recommended to configure an odd-number of NTP servers.   Some of the primary things when it comes to NTP configuration and troubleshooting can be covered using these quick links. Issue resolved, but alerts persisting with old time stamp. alerts ware generated during network maintenance, now all ok need to clear logs, need procedure to clear the old alerts.
