Communication error on calm deployment

Hi,   I was successful on setting up prism central on the community edition all working good. Further i extended the cluster capability by enabling Calm. I am able to access the calm UI and see all the functions available. As a next step i tried to deploy hycu blueprint from market place also tried to deploy one VM from my on disk image. Both get failed with below error. Please help.   HTTPConnectionPool(host='172.16.xx.xx', port=4120): Max retries exceeded with url: /api/1/entities/get_by_name?name=Application-hycu--74b677a5-5cd9-4c49-9cb4-196e2d5e3be4 (Caused by ProtocolError('Connection aborted.', BadStatusLine("''",)))    Regards, Aravind

Round-tripping a VM definition using PowerShell 5.1 in Calm results in HTTP error 400

Hi all!This might not be a Nutanix Calm specific problem, but since I’m experiencing the problem within Calm I’m posting a question here (as well). :)I'm grabbing a VM definition using GET https://${PCHostAddress}:9440/api/nutanix/v3/vms/$VMUUID. I convert the payload to an object using ConvertFrom-Json, manipulate it using .Remove() to remove the Status section (among other things), and convert it back to JSON with ConvertTo-Json.When I send the modified payload back using PUT https://${PCHostAddress}:9440/api/nutanix/v3/vms/$VMUUID, I get a "(400) Bad Request." Thinking I screwed something up when modifying the payload, I removed the part of the code that changes the object but still got the same error, even though I'm "just" converting the unmodified payload from and to JSON.Sending back the payload without converting from and to JSON results in a "(422) UNPROCESSABLE ENTITY”, as it should.In this case the -Depth parameter isn't the culprit as far as I can tell (I've added -Depth 10

How does Calm execute PowerShell on an endpoint?

Hi all!In an attempt to solve a problem with “round-tripping” JSON I’ve concluded that the only fix is to use PowerShell 7 since the ConvertTo-Json cmdlet in version 7 allows me to escape the troublesome characters.This solution might just be me robbing Peter to pay Paul though as I now face the issue of getting Calm to use PowerShell 7 instead of the default 5.1 (a.k.a. Windows PowerShell).I’ve gone so far to set the default PowerShell remote endpoint (windows.powershell) to point to PSH 7, which works if I do a traditional Enter-PSSession but not if I execute a PowerShell script in a Calm runbook.Which leads up to the title of this topic, how does Calm execute PowerShell on an endpoint?Since it’s using port 5985 it should be WinRM/WSMAN/remote PowerShell, but it completely ignores the fact that the default PSH remote endpoint is pointing to PSH 7.Is it using another endpoint? Or is it not using WinRM after all?

Windows Authentication Setup with CALM

Hello, I'm curious if anyone else has had issue getting Windows authentication with WS-man setup within CALM for the Login Check and remote execution of scripts. I have followed the docs and redone the setup a few times for validation, but the login check still fails with a vague error that just says to check out WINRM troubleshooting help. What's odd is that after I provision the Windows image, I can manually invoke commands for remote execution and login with the following command against the newly provisioned IP: PS C:\Users\Administrator> Invoke-Command -ComputerName 10.32.4.246 -ScriptBlock { $PSVersionTable.PSversion } -Credential administrator@domain.com My Karan service is installed and configured with a domain administrator, all PS commands in the document have been run as "administrator" on the Karan server and the target base Windows image as required. CredSSP has been run on the Karan server to allow all hosts as Trusted Hosts and the command to enable Cre

Passing a variable through to cloud-init script in Calm?

I know in Calm you can create variables in the service, and then use those variables throughout the config using @@{service.variable}@@. However, it doesn't seem like you can use those in cloud-init scripts. I'd like to be able to pass a variable that the user sets at the time of deployment (the IP address), which would then be used in the cloud-init script. Error "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get'" when executing runbook via API

Does Apps management (Calm) support ESXi in PrismCentral 5.8?

I deployed a Nutanix Cluster (AOS version 5.8) with ESXi 6.5. And I deployed a Prism Central 5.8 on it. There're some articles on internet, saying App Management supports ESXi, starting from PrismCentral version 5.7. Is it true? In my case, I can't find [b]Self Service & Apps[/b] from the pull-down list, when I click question mark icon in the main menu on PrismCentral 5.8. I did see "PC Scale out", "Enable app management" and "Microsegmentation", but not "[b]Self Service & Apps".[/b] When I click "Enable app management", I see the following error. [list] [*]Precheck failures: [/list] Host Cluster Registered Please check that the cluster on which this Prism Central is hosted is registered to it. I had already registered my Nutanix cluster into this PrismCentral. It looks to me that App management or self service doesn't support ESXi, correct? Or is there anything I missed?

Assign variables on multiple VMs

How to pass variables between tasks in runbooks using PowerShell?

Hi all.I’ve been searching all over the Internet, and the Nutanix documentation, to figure out how to pass variables from one task in a runbook to the next. I know that I need to print it to the console in the format “statusMessage = ‘This is the status message’” but so far I’ve tried with Write-Host, Write-Output, and Write without any luck.I’ve also tried using both @@{statusMessage}@@ and @@{Task1.statusMessage}@@ in the next step without any difference.How am I supposed to do this, and why isn’t it properly documented?Thanks.

Why, exactly, does Calm have to be on a Nutanix cluster?

Hi.I’m the first to admit that I read the documentation for Calm a bit too quickly and didn’t really reflect on the meaning of “The Prism Central in which Nutanix Calm is running is registered with the same cluster.” and “Nutanix Calm is supported only on AHV and ESXi hypervisors on a Nutanix cluster.”After trying and failing to run this on an existing VMware cluster, that the Prism Central/Calm installation doesn’t own, I re-read the documentation and realized that I’d glossed over the actual requirements.I mention this to clarify that this isn’t a post about unclear documentation or incorrect requirements. I goofed, as simple as that. :)What I do want to know though is why these requirements exist. I have talked to my contacts at Nutanix and I so far I haven’t got a proper answer to this question.Can anyone please explain, in detail, why I can’t run Calm on an arbitrary VM?

How does the while loop in Calm actually work?

Hi!I need help wrapping my head around how the while loop in Calm works. The documentation is unfortunately not helpful at all. :/The first thing I can’t understand is why a while loop has a fixed number of iterations. This to me is a for loop. A while loop runs while a condition isn’t met.The second thing that’s confusing is the exit condition that I can set to Success, Failure, or Don’t Care. I guess that Don’t Care turns the while loop into an actual for loop?The Success or Failure condition is as far as I can tell completely out of my hands as this is based on the result of the execution of the task(s) within the loop and not a parameter I control. Do I have to fail a task on purpose to keep the loop going if I choose Success as my exit condition?What happens if I have multiple tasks in the loop, do all tasks need to fail or succeed for the exit condition to trigger?Is it possible at all to set a parameter in one of my scripts and then use that as an exit condition?Thanks.

Automating Windows hosts patching

I mean by only using Ansible/Chef along with WSUS? What will be overall workflow for this? Any other 3rd party tools I will need to use for the same?I am looking for open source and cost effective approach here.Any Help/Direction will be highly appreciated.

IP not found error when launching blueprint

Hi All, I am in the progress of launching a blueprint via CALM. However encountered the IP not found error. How do we add the IP address to the Blueprint VM Configuration? Have filled up all possible network related fields: Network adapters (NICS) : NIC 1 - VLAN0 Connection: Address - NIC 1 From the logs: Waiting for 60 seconds to finish the guest customization Reapplying micro segmentation categories Waiting for VM a2b28676-fa5d-4ab3-a1bb-04cdc9351727 to get an IP ERROR: Failed to get an IP for the VM a2b28676-fa5d-4ab3-a1bb-04cdc9351727 It seems that it is stuck in the Guest customization issue. Hi all,I have a requirement to automate patching of Operating systems (Windows and Linux) For example - the process would be, Take a snapshot of the server, deploy the updates, test the server services are functioning as expected, if not restore the snapshot.Customer is using ManageEngine Desktop Central which is being used to deploy software and patch client computers.Is it possible to integrate Calm with ManageEngine Desktop Central to achive above automation ?If not what would be alternate way and its overall workflow ? I am looking for direction and some supportive.

Nutanix Calm and working with the REST APIs via HTTP Tasks

We're new to using Calm for automation/orchestration and I'm looking to get additional information/guidance on how we can leverage the Nutanix REST APIs during our virtual workload PreCreate/PostDelete tasks. I under how to work with the HTTP Task itself, but I'm not quite sure how to chain them together in such a way that it would work. They function as I would want individually, via the Test functionality for each HTTP Task.The first three cases we're trying to get to work to get our feet wet include: During Package Install, leverage Prism Central REST APIv3 vms to GET the complete spec of the newly created VM; modify that Response to update the Description; and set (PUT) the updated Spec with the modified Description as desired. During Package Install, graceful shutdown of the new virtual workload and removal of the second CD-ROM drive that is added (ide.3) to hold the 'unattend.xml' file. Hi all, I am working on a DevOps platform for a client and considering recommending Calm to automate the provision of TeamCity builds if the build queue meets a condition (i.e. if 15 builds in queue then spin up 5 build agents and add them to the pool). Has anyone done this with Calm ?

How-To make an AHV VM into Prism Central Image

Using CALM, it seems the best way to deploy VMs is from a VM image that you add to the Image Configuration store. However, when using Prism Central, it doesn't seem this is possible with ACLI to create an image from an AHV VM. How are people taking an AHV VM in PC inventory and making an image out of it so that you can add it to the image configuration repository? Thanks!
