I’ve attempted to install a single node cluster (many times) and seem to have the same issues. Post install, the cluster is not created. Genesis appears to not be installed or running? I can ping and ssh between AHV and CVM. Some issues I see leveraging the ‘troubleshooting common nutanix issues’:

I belive communication is getting block , due to ESXI vswitch setting. allow Promiscuous Mode and Forged Transmits on switch settings.
I seem to have another issue now- no option to select to not create a single-cluster.
Thanks, JeroenTielen! I was installing 2.1 and yes, did select single node cluster from menu. I did see about doing single node cluster post install; however, wanted to check before I install for the 5th time .
Thank you, HunterLAFR. I was intending on setting up DNS post install as I dont’ see a way to do that during install.
It happened to me when I was trying to deploy my first single node cluster on my lab,
In my case, I was deploying the CE nested in sphere 7, and the issue was not having the serial numbers on the virtual disks, and correct setup of DNSs when prompted to select the Create Single Node Cluster menu.
It makes a lot of differences (in my personal experience) the disk types, SATA to SCSI, its very sensitive when deploying the components.
After the full installation, I wait 30 minutes, and I was able to login into the Prism Console, and SSH the CVM and node.
Even dough with the correct DNS Setup, after the installation, the menu sent me the error that the DNS config was not correct at the CVM, so I fixed it via SSH and all setup.
If using the older version make sure you don’t tick the box the create the single node cluste. You need to do this manually.
When the installer is finished installing and asks for the reboot. Let it reboot and wait 20 minutes or so. The CVM will do an extra reboot to finalize his configuration.
