Unfortunately - as mentioned here: https://next.nutanix.com/t5/Installation-Configuration/Change-CVM-name/td-p/5231/page/2 - even though it does change the cvm-hostname, it's not displayed in the prism UI (has the old name). Sorry. Would be really nice to be able to change both (since it's quite confusing seeing the old name in the ui). Thanks.

Seeing a very similar issue here.

AHV and CVM rename
Under > Hardware
AHV Host rename is showing properly on overview, properly on the table and diagram.

CVM is NOT renamed within PRISM.
To do that - follow these steps
https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA03200000004yQCAQ
KB - 2717

Any idea?
If you run virsh list --all on the host you'll notice that the old CVM name is displayed. If this is the case run the following:

  • virsh dumpxml NTNX-OLDNAME-A-CVM > NTNX-NEWNAME-A-CVM.xml
  • vi NTNX-NEWNAME-A-CVM.xml
Update the following with the new name
name>NTNX-NEWNAME-A-CVM

  • virsh shutdown NTNX-OLDNAME-A-CVM
  • virsh undefine NTNX-OLDNAME-A-CVM
  • virsh define NTNX-NEWNAME-A-CVM.xml
  • virsh start NTNX-NEWNAME-A-CVM
