Assign domain permissions to users through Active Directory. Delegating permissions in Active Directory (AD) enables the administrator to assign permissions to unprivileged domain users and groups in the directory. Assigning a domain user an appropriate delegated permission ensures that the domain user can join a domain in Files. You can apply a Files account delegation to a single organizational unit (OU). Apply the account delegation where Files stores the computer objects. For information on delegating user permissions, see Delegating Administration of Account OUs and Resource OUs on the Microsoft technet website. Note: Do not delete or disable the active Files machine account from the Active Directory. Procedure Log into the Active Directory server as a domain administrator. I read the Supports and Insights page.“A distributed share or export is the repository for the personal files of a user, and a standard share is the repository shared by a group.  A distributed share or export is distributed at the top-level directories while standard shares are on a single file server VM (FSVM).”Does that mean if I create a standard share called “Shared” for 100 users, all 100 users would be hitting a single FSVM for access?Why wouldn’t I want to create “Share” as distributed in order to spread the load?Our first Files setup has D$ as the only top level share as distributed.  Other shares are below it and set as standard.  Any issues with that?  Not sure why we did this, or if we fully understood.  At least the D$ with shares underneath mimic a Windows file server.

Hello, We have the VM with the file serber on installing on one of the node of our Nutanix. For now the size of the disk is 3.5 TB, but we wanted to extend this size up to 4.5TB. Is somebody knows if VM will work correctly with the such big size of the disk?

A distributed share spreads the workload by distributing the hosting of top-level directories across FSVMs. The issue is due to the fact that Nutanix Files uses DFS namespace to provide shares to the Windows clients, meaning that the client will be connecting to the generic DFS namespace and not, in particular, the FSVM which serves the share that is which holds the VG for the share. So if the client connects to an FSVM where it just holds the re-parse point within the DFS namespace the rename operation will fail with an error of "Invalid device". The workaround is to make sure that you connect to the FSVM serving the top level domain (TLD). Please refer to the following KB article for the detailed process to connect to the FSVM serving the TLD. There are usually confusions around the Nutanix Files version compatibility with the installed Acropolis Operating System. Usually the confusion persists because of the issues seen in the past/ However those days are over. These are the points which needs to be considered before Nutanix Files new deployment or Upgrade :- Nutanix Files 2.0 became GA along with AOS 5.0 release. have come a long way and the latest available version in this branch in 2.2.4. Nutanix Files release is decoupled from AOS release cycle which means Nutanix Files releases are not synchronous with Nutanix AOS release cycle. However, there are a few dependencies there especially UI and Storage. Nutanix Files 2.2.x version is supported on all AOS versions released post 5.0. Nutanix 3.x version became GA in early Jan 2018 and is supported on AOS 5.6 and later. We have 3.2.x and 3.5.x branch maintained. I have deleted several shares on the Nutanix File Server we have running in VMware and the free space does not seem to be recovering even after a week. Is there a command i can run in ACLI or NCLI to force the clean up to take place? Or is there a better way to remove the shares other the through the Prism UI?

Hi all :) i want to Setup a small Files on my nested (esxi) CE Enviorment for testing and Demo purposes.   I am able to install the Base Packages by modifing the json Metadata.   AFS Version tried so far: 2.2.4, 3.6.1, 3.6.1.1 AOS Version: 2019.02.11   Installation works without Problems. But when i want to Setup the Server i get the following Error after completing the last Step in the Setup: File server spec validation failed, unknown error   I allready give 12GB more RAM per Node to 60 GB/Node. And i checked all Netwoks, IPs, DCs, NTP-Servers and Gateways. Besides the CVMs with 24 GB there is only one Windows VM running with 4GB RAM. Has someone an Idea what this can be? Thanks :)

Hello, I deployed File Analytics (FA). I certainly made a mistake in choosing the network. When I want to Enable File Analytics, I have this message : “Cannot connect to File Server: files.domain.lab. Please try again later.” Is it possible to change the network configuration ? Is it possible to disable FA form FS manually ? I test ping from FA-VM to FS domain name = KO   Thanks 

Hi all, I’ve just recently deployed a couple of Nutanix files servers for a client without any serious problem. During the process I have read all the great official documentation that nutanix maintains (really, really useful) but it seems that i can’t find an answer for the following question: What is the purpose of that extra IP address that every file server requires on the storage network side? I’ve noticed that the address is held by one of the FSVM but I can’t figure out what is it used for. Curiosity is killing me.

Many users are unaware that Nutanix Files itself maintains an application programming interface (API) similar to but separate from that of Prism. Nutanix Files uses the same backend service as Prism (Aplos) to respond to requests, and can be connected to using the same port (9440). I tested a planned failover of Nutanix Files v3.6 today from local site A to remote site B after reviewing the DR documentation. I successfully ‘migrated’ site A to site B however I expected the FSVM’s to migrate as well. Instead, they stayed at their original site A.     I assume that this is by design and my assumption is incorrect or did I miss a step somewhere?
