A Discussion with Igor Zecevic, Consulting Architect at Nutanix

The Nutanix Certified Expert (NCX) certification tests candidates on their ability to create and deliver Cloud-Smart solutions that leverage the Nutanix stack for Private Cloud and the best offerings from our Public Cloud partners for hybrid services.

Every NCX is an expert in their field and has the proven ability to design enterprise-scale solutions that support business-critical applications with service level agreements specified by business stakeholders.

Recently we caught up with Igor Zecevic to talk about his experience earning his expert-level certification and to get his advice for other professionals looking to earn their NCX.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your IT background?

I have been working in the IT industry for about 10 years now with experience working on the customer side before coming to Nutanix. I have strong knowledge in virtualization, infrastructure, automation and deep expertise on Nutanix and VMware ecosystem.

I hold numerous certifications but the most notable certification aside from the Nutanix Certified Expert – Multicloud Infrastructure (NCX-MCI) is the VMware’s VCDX #286.

I am very passionate about technology, education and sharing knowledge which I do through my blog on Virtualization and Cloud technologies.

Q. Why did you decide to get your NCX-MCI and tools/resources did you use to prepare for the certification?

I started my process by looking at the NCX blueprint guide, seeking advice from the Nutanix Community and connected with other folks who had experience with earning expert level certifications.

I highly encourage candidates interested by the certification, to attend the ECSD (Enterprise Cloud Solution Design) bootcamp which gives materials and a better understanding of what is expected to pass the exam.

I decided to get my NCX certification in order to validate my technical knowledge and ability to design enterprise-scale solutions that support business goals.

I earned my NCX certification by presenting defending a solution I designed for a customer in front-of a panel of examiners.

Q. How do you see your NCX-MCI certification helping your career?

I think certifications are validations of the skills you have or want to gain in order to grow your knowledge, expertise and confidence.

Personally, the NCX process helped me to consider the holistic view of a project instead of just focusing on the technical aspects. I learned to consider critical components such as business requirements, constraints, assumptions, risks and operational processes when designing a solution to ensure it solves business needs. In my opinion, the technical solution should just be the result of the gathering requirements and planning phases.

I apply the knowledge and methodology I gained through the NCX process on a daily basis.
