In software development-land, there’s an old saying: “Fast, good, cheap. Pick two.” In other words, achieving all three is next to impossible. You can have fast and cheap development, but in all likelihood the end product will not meet standards (i.e. not ‘good’). You can achieve fast and good development, but you’ll pay a very dear price for it. And good plus cheap will not be fast.

In the ten-plus years since virtualization and cloud began to hit the mainstream, a similar model has existed. Hypervisors and workloads can be deployed relatively quickly (fast), and they can scale (good); however, scaling can be fairly expensive (not cheap) due to high overhead in terms of hypervisor management. Conversely, deploying in the cloud can be fast and cheap, but scaling will be near to impossible.

Moreover, management of hypervisors and multiple decoupled services, such as compute, storage and applications, can become quite complex, quite quickly. Similarly, scaling applications and other resources – and securing access to them – can add further cost and complexity that strain TCO targets.

The good news is that hyperconverged systems, such as Nutanix’s enterprise cloud platform and Acropolis hypervisor (AHV) paired with Array Networks’ virtual application delivery controllers and SSL VPNs, can help change the “pick two” paradigm for admins managing virtual and cloud environments. With Nutanix and Array, customers can pick all three – gaining the best of virtual agility, hardware scalability and price-performance.

  • Nutanix Enterprise Cloud – Nutanix delivers invisible infrastructure that natively converges compute, virtualization and storage into a resilient, software-defined solution with rich machine intelligence. With Nutanix, IT can do more, faster and at lower costs and rapidly deliver business applications and IT services while driving down overall TCO.

  • Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor – Nutanix Acropolis is a powerful scale-out data fabric for storage, compute and virtualization. Acropolis combines feature-rich software-defined storage with built-in virtualization in a turnkey hyperconverged infrastructure solution that can run any application at any scale. Price/performance is a key differentiator for Acropolis – allowing IT to scale applications and services without breaking the bank.

  • Array Networks Application Delivery – Array load balancing and SSL VPN solutions are Nutanix-Ready validated to improve application availability, performance and security – optimizing traffic from any cloud or data center to any user, anywhere. Layer 4 – 7 application services are recommended for almost every potential Nutanix workload, and with Array these services can be deployed directly on Nutanix Acropolis – and like Acropolis, Array solutions are unmatched for price/performance.
Fast, good, cheap – with Nutanix Acropolis running both your application workloads and Array Layer 4 – 7 application services, having all three becomes a very real possibility.
