Third party backup integration is data protection that involves creating snapshot and backup copies via third party backup software.

The requirements for integration changed depending on the backup software being used.

Some of the supported backup vendors are

  • HYCU

  • Veeam

  • Commvault

  • Cohesity

  • Rubrik

For full list please visit Alliances Partners within Backup & Disaster Recovery.

This is a high level overview of the process. It consists of following components

  • Backup Server

  • Configuration database (usually deployed within the backup server or within the appliance (depends on the vendor))

  • Proxy (deployed within the NTNX cluster)

  • Repository

  • NTNX Cluster

Following Services are involved in creating 3rd party snapshot

  • Apache Web Service - handles all API calls to and from the backup software

  • Prism - tracks all API v1 and API v2 calls

  • Aplos and Aplos Engine - tracks API v3 calls

  • aplos_engine is responsible for the aplos snapshot (Snap UUID - kind UUID) creation

  • Ergon - manages all tasks

  • Cerebro - snapshot creation

Can someone explain what this means?

  • Veeam Backup & Replication 10 is validated with Nutanix Files 3.6.X (AOS 5.15 LTS)
  • Veeam Backup & Replication Server 10 is integrated with Nutanix Files (AOS 5.15)

Does it mean Veeam is using the Nutanix Files CFT API?
