Hi @Vastsea

Take a look at the reply from @pnashawaty - If it helps, please consider clicking the 'like' and 'best answer' link as that will help others in the community find the answer much quicker. Thanks
Hello, as stated HYCU is installed as a VM on the Nutanix cluster. We leverage CALM to automate the install, however the VM can be installed directly as well. Although HYCU's Prism-like interface is built to leverage the same look and feel as Prism, we run along side as an independent interface.

So, to answer your question, HYCU runs and supports ESX and AHV VMs. HYCU can be installed independent of CALM and the interface can be outside Prism. The install process is as simple as providing the credentials for the Nutanix (or non-Nutanix ESX) cluster, we will automatically discovery the VMs and applications without installing any agents or connectors, HYCU is then ready to provide a app consistent backup of the data. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi @Vastsea

Maybe @pnashawaty can also add some insight here. Thanks

Also check out this webinar Data Protection Reinvented for Hyper-converged Nutanix AHV & VMware ESX - might also help explain the architecture.

Setting up HYCU without Calm is pretty straightforward using their own user guide PDF. Deploying it to ESXi or AHV is just a matter of choosing the correct image file.

You don't need a PC instance, as HYCU connects straight to a cluster's PE address. The HYCU VM might even be easier to deploy without a PC, because there is little to no control over image placement anymore in a PC environment.
