We have a 4 node cluster - Dell XC730xd's

Looking to upgrade with 2 extra 16GB sticks in each. What is the best approach to this? And what pattern do we need to follow for installing the RAM?

Dell XC730xd supports DDR4 registered DIMMs (RDIMMs), and load reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs).
if you are using 8 DIMM's of 16GB each, then it should populate in the A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, B3, B4 slot.

You can check the pattern from this link:- Dell Memory Configurations

The best approach to increase the hardware memory is by contacting your Sales Engineer ( Accounts team) who can help you for procuring new DIMMs too.

if you feel any difficulty in contacting your Sales engineer, please drop me a text by your Company (Accounts) Name so that I can help you with it.

Thank you

You are in for a surprise with DELL. Be prepared to pay an additional license cost on top of the hardware cost!

Yes License on top of hardware cost! Upgrading Hard Disk, Upgrading Memory on Dell XC Platform (Don't know about others) is costly! For example we added two SSDs in each nodes and we had to pay 2 license cost on top of the hardware cost!!!
