Last year at the Nutanix .NEXT Conference in Washington, D.C., Veeam announced a new partnership with Nutanix, the leader in enterprise cloud computing and hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI). Part of that announcement positioned Veeam as the Premier Availability solution provider for Nutanix virtualized environments. The response to that announcement was stellar, and less than a year later, we demoed Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV at Nutanix’s at .NEXT Conference in the famous jazz city of New Orleans. As a musician myself, I tend to use musical references, and this will be no different. With New Orleans’ rich heritage of jazz, R&B, and blues, I couldn’t think of a better place to talk about the great harmony we have seen from our partnership with Nutanix, and talk about what’s next in our duet.

We are proud to announce the expansion of our partnership, with Veeam becoming a Strategic Technology Partner within the Nutanix Elevate Alliance Partner Program, and Nutanix joining the ranks of Elite Partner within the Veeam Alliance Partner Program. This means a tighter alignment between our two companies, and a better experience for our customers. We are also very proud to announce support for the Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV), expanding our hypervisor support and bringing the Veeam Availability Platform to more customers.

From a business perspective, this means you can focus on the core competencies of your business, meet your SLAs by closing your protection and Availability gaps, and address compliance issues that require adherence to the 3-2-1 rule (3 copies of your data on 2 different media, with 1 off site).

With our support of AHV, we maintain our agentless approach to protection, providing both full-VM restore and file-level restore options just to mention a few. Our joint customers will experience the same intuitive, easy-to-use management capabilities in a new web-based UI designed specifically to look and feel like Prism, ensuring a familiar experience for Nutanix users. In addition, for compliance to the 3-2-1 rule, customers can retain a local copy for fast recoveries, a copy to a Veeam repository, and a copy to the cloud.

We leverage Nutanix’s Distributed Storage Fabric (DSF) to ensure we keep Change Block Tracking (CBT) to reduce the time and effort when taking backups, all the while being done at the API level.

In summary, Veeam will integrate with the Nutanix API to achieve:
  • Agentless, application consistent backup with Nutanix Guest Tool (NGT) integration
  • Acropolis CBT-based incremental forever VM image-level backup
  • Full-VM restores, file-level restores and Veeam Explorer-based restores for a broad range of applications
  • A Nutanix Prism-like web-based UI.
We are extremely happy with this announcement and look forward to many more innovations along the way with our expanded partnership in the future.
