Welcome to the Nutanix NEXT community. To get started please read our short welcome post. Thanks!
we are performing a POC at a customer site and the customer is proposing to connect a 4 nodes
Nutanix NX-3465-G4 to a Cisco Nexus Switch using Cisco Twinax Active cables 7m and 10m long. Cisco code:
Can we use these cables or there is some compatibility issue?
Tks in advance
Go to Solution.
no problem at all, as long as its SFP+ (which it is) and the switch MFG supports it (which cisco does), we're pretty indifferent in that regard
Should be good to go
Is there a maximum supported length of twinax cables? When we started with Nutanix we were given the recommendation to keep to 2M but I don't remember where that recommendation came from.
It's all SFP+, so typical standards apply.
Up to 10 Meters, but 7 and 10 meter lengths need to be Active twinax
1 through 5 meters can be passive.
Hey, updating this post based on some recent guidance from both support and hardware engineering
We've updated our documentation (here: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Hardware-Admin-Ref-AOS-v50:set-block-connect...) to say that we dont formally support anything over 5 meters (which means no active cables)
The story behind the story is that we've mainly seen issues with the 10 Meter active twinax. 7 Meter twinax has been ok, but we've made the command decision to not support anything longer than 5M.
If you're already in production with this setup, and you're not seeing issues, you should be fine. As always, please work with support if there are any issues.
