Installing on NUC 7th Generation issues (No NIC Found)

I've been trying for days now to get the latest community edition (7.20) installed on a 7th Generation Intel NUC. Nothing seems to work. I've tried the alternate e1000e drivers mentioned in these forums without luck. Install fails stating that no network adapters found (1GbE or 10GbE). Many thanks.

Hi,

 

Please send us more info, namely the output of:

 

lspci -nnv

 

It will be a lot of output so feel free to crop to just the network card info, especially if you have to take a photo of the screen (assuming you can't ssh & copy/paste since CE isn't installed yet).

Here's the steps I did.

 

Booted to install screen, logged in as root.

typed 'modprobe e1000e'

typed 'dmesg | grep net' but output shows only  the loopback adapter. ifconfig shows only loopback.

Tried to restart network service, same error when trying to install: No GigE or 10GigE network devices found. I tried using someone's CentOS network driver, same result.

 

I verified that the NIC works. Installed Ubuntu and it works without error. Must be the driver... 

 

Any  other suggestions?

Not sure if it works on the new CE - But you can try:

If you tried this one already, then you can make your own, while we wait for for the driver to modified in the "official ce"

Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered a 1 GbE USB adapter in the meantime so we'll see if that works first and wait for the next CE release if that doesn't do it.

Don't suppose there's any updates on this issue? I find myself the owner of 3 x 7th Gen NUC's that are currently unusable as a Nutanix lab setup.  Any of the available modules from the forums are all for older versions and I'd rather not go back to a much older version unless I have no other choice.

 

Any chance of getting a released module that works on the latest build - ce-2017.07.20-stable??

 

Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: This is a temporary fix. Rebooting will hose the installation. NUC stops responding to pings, etc after a reboot. Haven't figured out how to fix that yet. DON'T REBOOT.

 

I finally got it working. Since the NUC has no internet access (tried USB networking too) I had to create a driver RPM on another box. It's not of the same kernel so it will throw an error, but it works. This has been a major PITA. 

 

I got the driver files from here:

Instructions to install the driver via RPM:

# Download the RPM package and put it somewhere. Copy it to external USB drive and plug it in.

# Determine which device to mount

ls -l /dev/disk/by-disk/usb*

# look for name of the external drive, write down the sdXX at the end of the line

cd /mnt

mkdir usb2

sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/usb2

cp /mnt/usb2/e1000e-3.3.5.10-1.x86_64.rpm /tmp

modprobe -r e1000e

sudo yum localinstall /tmp/e1000e-3.3.5.10-1.x86_64.rpm

modprobe e1000e

dmesg | grep -i e1000e

# it should show the e1000e module is now loaded

ifconfig -a

# It should list the eno1 adapter now but without an IPv4 address. This is ok. 

# type exit (do not reboot). 

# login with 'install'

# forward through prompts and assign IP address to the host and CVM

# when finished, browse to the IP you assigned the CVM

Log into PRISM with admin, admin. Change password.

Done. 

 

Hopefully this works for you. Moderator, requesting an updated e1000e module be added into the next build.
